I don't think it needs something. I used the Paper Mario Yoshi as a reference for the frames, since they have a similar posture. It's got all the same frames.

I have to say I agree. It doesn't look like Yoshi can really go anywhere with those leg movements.

EDIT: Actually, it's more like it's ambiguous which way he's going, if he's not moving in place.

No, I don't think it does. If it did then the closer foot would also move forward instead of just backward then skipping to center.
