Woah Woah Woah there. No it's not allowed. To be honest it never occured to me that people would want to use original characters. If you've already started on an entry with original characters, go ahead and finish that, but don't start a new one that way.

Original characters are often specified as non-Mario characters, which caused my misunderstanding. It's not really a big deal to use original characters, if you ask me.

Also: You might want to type this rule into the first post.

(Example: Mario in a Sonic game.)
Or, if that's not your thing you can take non-Mario characters and put them in a Mario game!
(Example: Sonic in a Mario game.)

It works either way.

It is. You can do a Mario character in a non-Mario game, or a non-Mario character in a Mario game.
