Ok I have a really odd request that regards defying the laws of physics in MMF2 or something. ph34r.gif

Okay lets say you have 3 objects: Object A (Red), Object B (Blue) and Object C (Green).

user posted image

Now I want Object B to go over Object A. No problem right?

user posted image

But lets say I need Object C to go above Object B, but to stay below Object A.

user posted image
(or this, it doesn't matter for what I need it for)

I end up with something like this. This is what I need.

Just wondering if it was possible to get this effect without changing the graphics at all.

In case people missed it before, I'm using MMF2.

Well, you could take advantage from Super Mario Bros 3.
It had a similar problem.

If you found a white block and ducked on it for 5 seconds, Mario went behind scenery.
If you were behind a bush and a Koopa walked by, you could see how the thing worked.
-Mario is above Koopa.
-Koopa is above Bush.
-Bush is above Mario.

This presents a problem. Layer A can't be below Layer B but above Layer C (If Layer C is above Layer B). If this isn't what you mean, then I don't understand what you mean. :s

Yoshiman may have just got something... what if you make 2 objects that are the same? That way, you could get this result.

Yeah, I tried it with paper, I had to cut the paper in order to get it to work.

Yeh I know it's not possible with real life (hence the title) but was wondering if there was some way to individually assign whether an object was above/below another object in MMF2 (essentially).

Unfortunately, that's just what I want to avoid... Okay I'll say the exact context I want to use.

I have 3 objects (Object A, Object B, Object C).

Object A is behind Object C for reasons I needn't disclose. Object B is a small object that is often hidden behind object A. What I want is for Object B to move from being behind Object A to being above Object C. Unfortunately, as it is hidden behind Object A, it is also behind Object C.

user posted image << This is what I want

(Object A is the Darkish Blue, Object B is black, Object C is red)

I dunno if this'll change anything for anyone. I just wanted to emphasise the fact that it moves (thus that I can't use 2 objects).

I tried that :s It might have worked if the object didn't have some time both behind object A and in front of object C (at the same time).

Ok nevermind then.

Explanation:
I'm trying to immitate a DS screen. I want it so that objects from the "bottom screen" DO NOT appear on the "top screen" and visa versa. But there's times where an object on the bottom screen sort of... slides in" from the top of the screen ( http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/6144/test2vd6.gif ), meaning that you'd need to what I'm trying to, essentially.

So really what I'm gonna need to do is either seperate the "screens" or make it so that the object has a "slide in" animation. Neither of which I wanted to do (hence topic). Unless someone can think of some other way to achieve this effect?

what i would do is use a subapp for each screen

you'd still have to synchronize the objects, though

Well I was hoping to avoid using them because I thought it'd use 3 seperate EXEs. If it doesn't then... there's no problem. Thanks. wink.gif

Wait is there any way to send information to a sub-app? Other than global values and things.
