The Mario Bros grew up their whole childhood at Brooklyn, and they met Wario and Waluigi in Elementary, with Wario being the neighborhood bully, and Waluigi being the sidekick. Pauline was a one-time thing for Mario in high-school, and ironically, he was her savior in the Donkey Kong thing. The Mario Bros were sent to the Kingdom via the Supershow story, and blah blah blah. For me, Mario's the average, Luigi's the smartass, Wario's the bully/gangster, and Waluigi the handiman.
