Seraphim Falls is one of those movies that has been done a million times. In fact usually the only reason you'll want to see it is because of a twist or the actors involved. Well, this is a case of the latter.
Seraphim Falls is the town of Carver (Neeson) of the Confederate Army. He has a family and is content with his life. The civil war has been over for months and peace has finally come over America again. Until one day that is all taken away by Gideon (Brosnan). Several years later Gideon is a lost soul in the middle of the mountains just hunting to get by. He has nothing left to live for, his family has been lost in the war and now he roams the country on his own. But soon he is tracked down by the revenge driven Carver and sent on the cat and mouse game of his life.
Pierce Brosnan and Liam Neeson do such a fantastic job of acting in this film it's hard to not give it a three of of that. Their acting IS the movie. It makes the movie. Granted, the whole first half of the film is fantastic and breathtaking visually, now if only the writers knew how to end the damn thing. The film slows down extremely during the second half and starts to get too unrealistic during the last twenty minutes. In fact I'd think it'd give it a better score if I hadn't seen the ending. The movie is rated R. But that comes as a surprise as the only scene that I would even think of as R is where Brosnan digs a bullet out of his shoulder. (Pictured above) Everything else I would have seen on TV. Like I said before, had the actors had more to work with this would have been a fantastic retelling of the classic story of revenge. It's really a shame.
