Oh Norbit, if only you had a decent story, and wasn't a bunch of funny scenes sliced together. Because that's exactly what Norbit is.
Norbit (Eddie Murphy) is a orphan who was "thoughtfully abandoned" on the steps of Mr. Wong's Golden Wonton Restaurant and Orphanage. He grew up during his childhood years with Kate (Thandie Newton) but is deeply hurt and left alone after she is adopted. He is later selected for a relationship with Rasputia (Eddie Murphy), the local overweight bully. As they grow old Norbit starts to wonder if he's done the right thing and is only pushed in the wrong direction when Kate moves back to town.
I understand that I shouldn't come into a Eddie Murphy film expecting story, but I also would like a bit more then a bunch of black stereotypes coming out of every direction. Again, I get it, Eddie Murphy. Yeah I don't know what I was thinking. Norbit is not that bad of a film. It's just been done before and like I've said in other reviews the only reason you'll even think about seeing it is a twist. A big black Eddie Murphy woman twist. He seems to be playing every role in his films now and to be honest he doesn't do a bad job. In fact I was about to write something about how he was upstaged by a chinese man but now I'm finding out that was him too. I have to give him something for that, I never once thought that was him.
On the note of that the makeup effects in this movie are amazing and you never think that Eddie Murphy is playing two characters other then the fact that they advertise it. The parts that are weakly put together are funny and the acting is pretty good all around. But when you see it you'll feel like you've seen it a million times.
