It's been done many times before and it's happened to more than just sprite comps. The reason he is shortening the comp. is due to the low amount of entries posted. In order to do this though, I would think you would need at least 5 entries.

Well, as I remember from the old days, sprite comps last for a week, drawing comps last for 2 weeks, and minigame comps last for 3 weeks or a month, and everyone agreed on that, even though there are not enough entries.
Either ways, it's up to the one who runs the sprite comps.
Anyway, my entry.
