To be honest I don't think I've seen Jak mod more then once in the past year.

But as for the staff I think they do a very good job. Even if TD isn't around, he founded this place and he doesn't force stuff on people so I don't see why there is a problem there. Jeff does a good job, and Trasher too. FanGuy's not on as much ethier but he is a good mod when he's around. RII doesn't really admin because he's basicly more in charge of coding. Shadowman and Klobber aren't around as much but I think they still keep up their jobs if nothing more.

Yeah what mario gamer said. TD doesn't do much but it's not damaging anything. The only thing it does is make me want to say "Grr darn you TD being so idle!".

I went through and looked at some of Jak's posts. He has done his job fine, I just always miss it somehow.

I think I should remind people that we hired Fanguy and Jak at a time that we were looking at a "minimod" model, since neither were terribly active. We were also going to offer Xander a position, but he dissapeared entirely around the same time.

I don't know why people think I'm never here. I'm on every day, and check in every time I get a chance, which is several times a day. I'm guessing the reason they assume I'm not on since I'm not posting a whole lot, but I assure you that I'm here every day and check in on the reports as the day goes on.

Considering the fact that Kritter said "Jeff does a little" makes me think that your views are flawed. Jeff has been one of the most active staff members, and the ban log in forum 12 can attest to that.

As far as the question, I do take pleasure in moderating the forum. I like the forum and I enjoy helping to keep it running smoothly.

You mean Jeff? FanGuy was a mod long before Jeff and Jak were if my memory serves me correctly.

Edit: Also, I must correct myself earlier. Jak does his job well, it just doesn't seem evident because he rarely posts anymore.

I feel some kind of obligation to stay here. It seems like the going-downhill point came around the time that I joined, and those two points are completely inseparable in my mind.
Since I first came, the site has really evolved (for better or worse). It's become a much more dynamic, "Web 2.0"-type site with a giant thriving community where not everyone gets along. From what I saw of the original MFGG (back when it was on Emulationzone), it was a really tight-knit group that placed a lot more emphasis on the community than anything. It was the kind of thing that was fun to be in charge of.
The community right now is growing like a vine. It keeps rapidly expanding, and not everyone wants it around. I haven't been posting as much simply because I can't think of anything to say. I'm not involved in any of the in-jokes or community fads, and it's impossible for me to jump into them. So many things have developed (relationships, fads, alliances, teams, etc) that I feel hopelessly dazed and confused reading the boards. I try to keep up with almost every single thread and stay involved in them, but I rarely say anything.
I feel like a ghost wandering around the city I used to live in.
I think now would be a good time to officially say (although I've said this before) that I'll be resigning at the end of Summer 2008. MFGG has really helped me evolve and grow as a person and has even mirrored my life at times, and I've gained some friendships here that'll last a lifetime, but once college kicks in, there's no way I can do this anymore. It's just becoming too peripheral.
That being said, I just feel like this place is kind of my home away from home. I have a love-hate relationship with it, but I just feel a solemn duty to stick with it until my time is through.

Stuff happens at different times you see. When i'm at work Jeff is most active around that time, which is where I get caught more often than usual posting naughty things. The same thing would probably happen but with another member of staff if I did it like right now.

The thing about being a mod (and this is something I'd expect Kritter to know since he was one) is that the only time anybody ever notices you do anything is when they don't think you're doing it properly. With the exception of a few semi-inactive mods/admins (who nonetheless do their job well when they are active), we all do quite a bit around here that just doesn't get noticed because it's rather mundane.

This is why we have some terrible members. They really don't take the time to look at another member's mistakes and learn from them.

This topic is a question for the Admins and mods to give their own personal opinions on how they feel about what they do and how the forum is.

It is NOT a flame, and it is not specifically directed at the members, but that doesn't mean they can't give their opinions, but the main discussion and point if my interest at least, is what the Admins and Mods think.

I just realized I totally neglected to answer half of Kritter's question, so I'll do that now:

As far as whether or not I enjoy this job... kinda. Like I said earlier, it seems like our actions go largely unnoticed until somebody thinks we're screwing up, which results in little appreciation and a ton of criticism. The criticism itself is kinda crazy because for every complaint we receive about why we're doing our jobs poorly we receive another complaint that says the exact opposite: we're too hard on the new members and we're too easy on the new members, we're too hard on the established members and we're too easy on the established members, we're spineless and we're hardasses, we need to enforce permabans and we need to start giving people second chances, et cetera.

On the other hand, I do still enjoy this place kinda, even if it isn't the tight-knit community it used to be, and it's nice to be able to fix things around here when they go wrong.

(And don't mistake what I said about not receiving praise for our jobs as meaning I absolutely need that; I don't. I just wish it weren't so imbalanced compared to the constant and contradictory criticism.)

I still dispute your decision to both vault the topic you did as well as my topic, and change your member title. Last two of which I consider a flame under the definition of the current Forum Rules.
