Mii Manager:

this device lets you rip Mii data from your Wiimote and lets you edit it on your computer (Mario bros. Miis anyone?)

Advanced Gameport:

this device, meant for Gamecube, is compatible with the Wii, what is it exactly? it's a less cluncky, cheap Gameboy Player (not sure if it's backwords compatible with the game color and pocket games tho cool.gif )

Those sound (kind of) good.

I wonder how the Advance Game Port software compares to the official Gameboy Player.

Also it's kinda funny how they used the prototype Gamecube controller for their controls layout.

That really doesn't say anything about the specific software. Does it have the same filter options as the Gameboy Player?

Plus I sort of doubt this supports additional Gameboy Player features like Gamecube controller rumble in games like Super Mario Advance 4. Other strikes against it include an inability to link up to other systems and probably no usage of the GCN-to-GBA cable so you can keep your GBA controls but use a bigger display.

Why the hell did they attach a wire to that GameBoy thing? Couldn't they have just kept it in the memory card slot? (Although granted, they'd have to re-work the shell for the thing first). The obvious reply to that is so that it would work on the Wii, but at the same time it doesn't look as though there's enough wire to get from the top of the Wii to a flat surface, so the thing would be hanging anyway.

On a slightly related note, does the official GameBoy player play GBC/GB games as well?

Yes, it does. So if this thing doesn't that's another strike against it.

But I love this quote:

QUOTE
I THINK THIS IS REALLY COOL AND I WILL GET ONE FOR MY KID BECAUSE SHE HAS ALOT OF GAMEBOY TAPES AND SHE WILL LIKE TO PLAY THEM ON THE TV SO SHE CAN SEE THEM BIGGER I WILL CHECK THEM OUT AT BESTBUY

Here's some interesting information on its software:

QUOTE
When you press the Z-trigger on your GameCube controller, you will be presented with the AGP in-game menu where you can see the code list (if there are any codes entered for the game in the Cheat Construction Kit), press Start to return to the Game Selection screen and the option to press X or Y to either Save or Load a Snapshot.
A Snapshot is an instant save file that is stored on the memory card in slot A. For each game you can have only one Snapshot file. Saving a Snapshot file takes 55 blocks on the memory card, so you can imagine your memory card will get full quite soon if you have a couple GBA games. Ian from Datel was generous enough to send me their GameCube MAX Memory Card of 128 MB. This memory card has over 2000 blocks, so I can save quite a lot of GBA Snapshot files on this card. If you are thinking about buying the AGP, I suggest you take a look at the MAX Memory as well, because it’s quite cheap and it enables you to save a lot of Snapshot files.

That's definitely a benefit. While 55 blocks is kinda hefty, the ability to have a snapshot is crucial in GBA games that lack good save functions. Plus that Cheat Construction Kit sounds pretty interesting.

This isn't very encouraging, however:

QUOTE
There’s only one thing I dislike about the AGP and that’s the poor sound emulation. The sound is very glitchy and you notice this immediately if you have a 6.1 surround set like I do.

And neither is this:

QUOTE
I decided to play the game I was busy playing at that time on the GameBoy Advance; Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. I was surprised when I launched it and it said that there was no save file found. I was pretty disappointed to find out that the AGP doesn’t read SRAM.

Which is weird because their website acts like you can use genuine save data as well.

Big ol' obnoxious edit: Looks like this thing doesn't even work with the Wii until you use an Action Replay, and then it's still unlikely:

http://forum.altgamer.org/showthread.php?p=45

QUOTE
I just got my hands on a hard-to-find Advance GamePort dongle and tried to use it on my Nintendo Wii while following the instructions found online and when I insert the Action Reply disc my Nintendo Wii wont recognize the it.

Recently I upgraded the firmware of my Wii and am beginning to think that this might have something to do with this but who knows?

So, the moral of this story is if you are planning on playing your GBA games via your Wii, the Advance GamePort dongle may not be a prudent choice.

Good luck!

-Wolfgang

Absolutely horrible. Like trying to run Boycott Advance on a sub-1GHz machine with a sound card on the fritz.

I'm probably going to make a homebrew GBA cart dumper with mine, just been too lazy to reverse-engineer the damn thing.

Well, people have been using their own USB Bluetooth devices to mess with Miis already, with their own homebrew software:

http://www.miieditor.com/

There's sites like http://www.miimall.com/ that store them as well.

Except for the fact they're charging for software you can get for free, and who knows how reliable their Bluetooth device is? If you're going to gamble on theirs you might as well save money and buy a cheap-o one.

Your word combined with the fact that this thing can't even run on the Wii apparently has made me lose all interest.

I still can't see the point in editing Miis on a PC when the Wii has a perfectly functioning Mii creator built in.
