A demo of a song by my band "Aeternum Vale"

Here are two versions, a normal version, and an istrumental version. If you have any kind of major problem with scream/growl vocals, I suggest you listen to the insturmental version.

(Save Target As)

Conformity Kills
Conformity Kills Insturmental Version

Damon Bledsoe (Me) - Guitars
Micheal Jordan - Vocals
Travis Morley - Guitars

Drums were created using a demo version of Rhythm Rascal, hence why you may hear various "clicks" throughout the song.

And final, guest vocals from our own Kentucky-Fried Panda ( During 2:30 - 3:20, vocalized version only )

Any and all comments are appreciated

P.S. I was gonna have a slow guitar solo during the long breakdown section, but it was cut out at the last second because I wanted to carefully write it as opposed to just improvise.

It was fun, even though I got a headache from all the noise. And I was happy to get to have a part in the song. Maybe I can be a guest vocalist again... Maybe?

Ironic name for a song.

Not a fan, a lot of it comes off as amateurish, like someone's just got their first guitar and has decided to strum out some simple chords and pretend it's music, but then it could be put down to the quality. I prefer the instrumental one, but it drags on a lot as well, the non-instrumental one was much the same, with an "ooooo" exception, which was FAR too quiet. Basically the whole bit from 2:15 to 4:56 bored me to death, before you came back in with the illegable rambling.

If I had to say anything, it would be that the drums seemed to be the best part, and it wasn't even done by a drummer.

Sorry for the harsh critique.

lol
I still don't like the way the lyrics go with it. its like a dirty sounding death metal voice with a heavy yet medolic song. It just doesn't fit to me.
but We can all get together again in a week or two and work on it/other stuff.
oh, and if you find that L/S jack, you can have it, since you need one too and you lost yours at my house.

I'll agree with Kritter on the aspects that the "ooo" part was too quiet, and that the quality is a bit bad. Perhaps next time don't put so much gain/distortion onto it.

However, I myself liked the singing (though that could have had better quality as well, I had no idea what he was saying), and to me, the song didn't sound amateur, especially when I viewed the midi you gave me for it. I think the good work of it was definitely masked by the loss of quality, as Kritter said it might have been.

And yeah, that one part was monotonous, and of course, this is due to the fact that a solo was meant to be there.

If you guys make the quality better, and improve upon the aspects me and others have said, then you've got it made! Good job!

Well perhaps amateur was the wrong word, but it just didn't flow very well in my opinion. First there's someone doing some basic stuff on guitar, then someone jumps in with some high pitched stuff from out of nowhere...

For some reason I get a picture in my head of a young kid with his first electric guitar (or a tennis racquet) going crazy jumping around on his bed pretending he totally knows how to play. It just doesn't seem to fit.

Then there was that 2 and a half minute repedative bit.

And then it just loses it at the end when it turns into something completely different.

Edit: And get a better drumsynth without a metronome or whatever that is in it.
Edit2: I agree with Yoshiman though, I think it could sound a lot better if it was higher quality in terms of recording.

I'm already looking for one, and I'm taking all these into consideration.
EDIT: The guitars sound kinda bad due to the heavy amount of reverb going on.

Oh, and yoshiman, could you get on Msn/Aim?

My little humming part wasn't originally planned to be in the song... I was just humming along with the tune and they told me to do it louder and recorded it. I agree with the people that said it was too quiet, but my singing voice is horrid and untrained, so when my voice gets louder it goes from soft and quiet to almost hitting that note that can break glass.

I think maybe it should just be left out next time... Having a soft female voice when the rest of the vocals are from a screaming male... doesn't work so well.

guys....
yes, i know that the reverb is bad, and that there are parts that sound bad, and that it is just constructive criticism, but we should, at least, get just a little more artistic merit. i would like to see some of you dedicate your time into trying to write something yourself and record AND produce it on a limited budget. we only had one amp, the rhythm rascal program, audacity, and a saturday morning to record. i think that it's good, given the circumstances of the situation. we can't help it if we're too poor to own every guitar ever made and a line of amps and pedals from here to wherever. what DOES matter, however, is dedication, which we have had a LOT of lately.

Artistic merit given definitely, critique aside it's still a good achievement. Though both Yoshiman and I have been making music for years, though it's PC brand, digital stuff, but still... consider it written, produced and recorded all the same.

Edit: Also I used to play guitar if it's any consolation =P

Would you be willing to listen again if we can re-record it with overall better quality? I have the original midi we composed on hand too if you'd like to hear that.

Yoshiman says the song is good, and it does suck that it's bogged down by the quality.
