I've switched everything back to the 'default' display for the time being. In the process, I've run into some issues with the red headers in some of the sections, and tried coming up with some alternatives.

Firstly, How-Tos. Rather than distinct MMF/TGF headers, I tried putting in small icons. More importantly, howtos can have more than one. Example being, I packaged my Revolving Objects tutorial with both GAM and CCA files, so it becomes unclear which category it belongs in (and the TGF version is NOT compatible with the MMF version, or at least not a 1 to 1 correspondance, which does happen, especially with howtos). I'd like to see what the opinion on that is - having the ability to select which platforms your howto is designed for (as in, what files you packed in your zip).

A similar change happened to Misc, allthough the change doesn't really add any benefit. Maybe it even takes some away, but again, some trouble with the headers that I'm exploring workarounds for. I used some ugly standard windows icons to represent the different runtime/midi/wav categories, and eventually a font and other category will be added, since there are files that can't really be categorized in the current system. Comments again, allthough I'm sure a lot of you won't like this workaround. That's why I'm keeping the thing public.

Those sections are infinitely improved. For some reason, I just like the way the misc page is done.
Also, might wanna have a GameMaker icon in case something is eventually submitted for it.

That's... a great compromise. I didn't want to miss the table set, that's... really good.
Just don't put thumbs into the games categories when you do.

Are you talking about the games page or the misc/how tos page?

And I just went to the test games page, and if you're talking about the search redicle on the top, I'm not too excited about that... but what do you mean?

If you look at sprites and such, I swapped the template back for the moment, so they're the 'old' version. And the search/order bar was replicated on the top to bring more attention to it.

Is that going to be in the final? ....I really don't hope.

The skin and tables is really completely irrelevant at this point, that will unfold when I finish working out the system. More importantly I'm lookinf for opinions on a couple specific changes to misc and howtos - replacement of headers with icons. And as time progresses, time permitting, other things may come up for discussion in this topic.

Ok, but I wholeheartedly think it's tacky to have the search on the top. I really think it is..

I actually like it better on the top. You don't have to scroll ALL the way down the page to find it-by the time you're down the page, you probably found what you're looking for.

Personally I've never used the search, and I'm assuming only a handful have.

And you personally are not 575 individuals. Some people might use it a little, some might not use it at all, others might live by it. Maybe some don't even know it exists. There's a lot of stuff in MFGG, and maybe you've been through the database so many times, and downloaded so many files, and created so many thumbnails, that you know where every itsy bitsy sprite and tidbit is located. For someone who first shows up at the site, maybe it's not so easy to find what they're looking for. The search is the fastest way to pull up a bunch of items relevent to what you're looking for, on a single page.

Well I was brutally attacked earlier today so I was expecting anything.
But even if the search on the top seems more useful in a way, I really think it's too much of a distraction to the look.

And I like the search being on top. If you want to know the truth, I didn't even realize we had a search at first, just because it was on the bottom. And what's the point of the search being on the bottom? I found it AFTER looking through the page to find the files I needed.

I think it should be at the top, because then you see it right away and don't have to waste time looking around when you're in a hurry.
