I've started work on MechMario 2. Here's a quick demo which shows you what's new. For the first time i'm using a static engine (props to ZeldaFreak for the original) so hopefully I can make it a bit more interesting than the first game.

The game is pretty great, but the flamethrower is a huge problem. Sometimes when you use it the sound effects repeat even when not using the weapon. Then, once the sound effects go away, any sound repeats itself several times. The effect causes the game to lag, and due to the lag, it won't read your button movements correctly--if you hold shift and the lag kicks in, the game won't read it as you holding shift, but rather, as you holding no keys.

Also, it'd be cool if it had a Gunstar Heroes setup where you wouldn't be required to collect the item if you touched it.

Awesome game, though, can't wait to see more.

EDIT: Also seems to happen with the blue bouncing attack.
The sound lag also happens with the several-eyed creatures, but that lag wears off if I wait long enough.

The lag you speak of is a known hardware issue which happens with many old directdraw programs. Apparently MMF/MMF2 fixes that problem though and since i've converted it to MMF2 it should hopefully go away.

And yeah i'll make it so you have to press down to pick stuff up.

I thought that only happened on my computer. Because of this, I spend more time making sure the game doesn't lag than actually playing.

Excellent.
The physics are great, the game runs as smooth as butter, and the variations of power-ups is great. You have yourself a solid engine that has the potential to become an amazing game.
