So, I was thinking.

That's basically the premise of this thread. I hope not to start a fad, but... really, what can be done about that, hm?

I know what you're thinking... And I agree. This would probably be better suited to a LiveJournal or some other type of blog. But I was actually looking for a medium that people looked at more often. All you have to do is look at the number of blogs there are, and it'd be easy to see that it's more than likely that a blog of mine would get lost in the flow of things pretty easily.

Anyways, whenever I think of something, I'll write about it in NotePad or WordPad, just because I can. The purpose of this thread is to share those thoughts (proofread, of course) with the world, most of which has probably already fallen asleep by the time they've reached this sentence, heh.

Anyways, I opened up WordPad when my mind jumped to the word "religion"... and here's what I got.

Oi. Religion. Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with people believing what they want to believe. You can say that the universe and everything that lays beyond it was created by the flying spaghetti monster. I don't care.

What I don't like about religion, though, is those who try to convert others. If the Jehovah's Witnesses (No offense meant to any Witnesses who come here, I'm merely stating a well-known example) start coming to my door and wasting my time, I'm not going to say hello. I'm not going to say goodbye. I'm going to shut the door. If they stick their foot in the door frame, I'm calling the cops for invasion of privacy or something similar thereof. I'm not putting up with stuff like that for a second. Not one second.

This is why I hate Jack Chick so much. He merely sits at home, drawing cartoons which mock and over-exaggerate popular culture, such as Dungeons & Dragons, and Halloween (Warning: These cartoons may make your eyes bleed. Even devout Christians may find these more than a tad ludicrous). Chick, being an extremely devout Christian, actually believes that these are occult. Now, I'd be fine with him keeping his kids home on Halloween or not letting them play D&D, even though I don't find his beliefs to be entirely... hm... "sensible" is the best word, I suppose.

But here's where my problem is: He makes these comics, which preach the message that Halloween celebrations will eventually lead to human sacrifices and that people will commit suicide over losing a game of D&D. As outrageous as these claims are, this isn't what annoys me. No, what really annoys me is the fact that he hands these comics out to kids on Halloween night when they come to his door, slipping them in along with their candy. This may seem hypocritical, in that I'm exaggerating as he does, but that is downright evil. He's technically manipulating kids into believing what he wants them to, in some cases using fear. Jack Chick makes me sick, rhyme not intended.

But, personal rants aside, religion is generally a good thing. It can turn miscreants into well-behaved parts of society, but on the other hand, it can (and has) started many wars (The Crusades, for example). Kind of a double-edged sword, eh? But I suppose that's the way the world works...

Which will (eventually) lead me to my next little group of thoughts, to be posted later. That is, the way the world works and how we, (the next generation, that is) are more than likely to be blamed for the loss of any chance of peace or order... but of course, that's for later. I'll discuss it, and my in-depth thoughts about it at another time.

Hm... I could think up all of that, yet I couldn't think of a better name for the topic? Ah well, whatever.

If anyone wants to spark up a debate with me of some sort (or even just talk to me; it might make me think for once in my life!), my Yahoo ID and MSN address should be in my profile, unless I've forgotten to add them. I rarely use MSN anymore, though, so your best chances of contacting me will be on YIM.

Until next time, ciao.

That D&D thing made me laugh so hard... it was so blunt and over the top! I can't get over it, so stupid...

On a more realted and slightly more serious note:
I love my religion. I respect other peoples' religions and won't go out of my way to argue or convert anyone. I sure as heck will defend my beliefs, but I think that's different than imposing my faith on someone else.

Yeh, religion started wars. Like the war between the Marines and the Covenant. Those Covanent *****rds! How dare they believe something! (I love shooting them) Oh, and, the only REAL reason the Crusades were started wasn't to defend the "Holy Land". It was just a reason to pillage and loot, and get away with it under the eyes of the Popey Wopey. soveryhappy.gif

Chick isn't ...ohhhh...he's just....yeh. I won't defend him because he is WAYYYYYYYYY out there. Say, if you don't waste your time, then how do you know whats in his "tracts" "wink wink"anyway?

I, myself, am religious, but I do not beleive in imposing beleifs upon others. Personally, I beleive that it is possible for many religions to coexist.

It's the ones that show how you find your own path to betterness that rock. Like Buddism.

It's the ones that give you a huge rulebook and say you can do X and Z but not Y that suck. Very much so too.

Whats wrong with trying to convert someone? They are just trying to "save your soul."

If you want to be rude and slam the door on their face instead of just calmly saying "Im not interested." Then fine, be that way and be a jerk.

I apologize if I've offended you. But I don't want someone coming up to my door and telling me that my beliefs are wrong and that I should convert to "save my soul". My statement was a bit of an exaggeration, I admit. I wouldn't slam the door in their face.

Still, however, the needless differentiating between all of these religions is mind-boggling and annoying all the same to me.

Wow, I thought that was a parody site, because it's way too in-your-face for a traditional Christian website.

Kinda hard for someone to super devout to a religion and not say "other religions are wrong"

Anyways...

I agree to a point, Bungalo, but again, I point out the fact that no religion (that I know of) promotes the mistreatment of those that are different. Also, I point out that judgement should be left to the Divine, if at all. In other words, who are we to decide who goes to hell and who doesn't?
