Help with ripping

There are many different ways to rip stuff. One way being using specific programs to rip stuff. Like there are tile ripping programs, but of course to rip tiles from a game you need a ROM. Take SMW for example, you can use a program called Tile Molester to rip tiles from it. Don't expect a tutorial because I've never used it before.

Then what I like to do, but is sometimes less effecient, good old printscreen. You can hit it and then go to a program like MS Paint and paste what you print screened and edit it or take stuff from it, take for instance, paper mario, i could be playing a PM ROM and decide i want the jumping sprite, I make him jump, hit print screen, go to MS Paint, paste then edit to get it down to just mario jumping.

I'm no expert on riping but I tried to give some basic examples
