According to IGN

QUOTE
US,  April 12, 2007 - Following its sudden disappearance late last year from the GameCube release charts, DK Bongo Blast has at last resurfaced on the pages of the latest Famitsu. As previously reported, the game has taken the Super Paper Mario route and is now due for release on the Wii.

Unlike Super Paper Mario, DK Bongo Blast was scheduled to make use of the GameCube bongo controller peripheral for its controls. The Wii version has been modified to control via the Wiimote and nunchuck. You shake the two devices in turn to accelerate, shaking just one to veer in a particular direction. To jump, you raise the Wiimote and nunchuck together. You can also punch enemies and obstacles and throw barrels; we presume developer Paon has thought up some clever control options for these moves.

The Famitsu article makes no mention of support for the GameCube bongo controller. We presume a decision to not support the peripheral would require a name change.

DK Bongo Blast will feature 16 courses set across 7 worlds, Famitsu reports. Four players will be able to battle via split screen.

Am I alone in thinking this sounds like a BAD idea? I don't want to have to race by shaking my arms up and down, it's painful enough in Rayman for a few seconds, let alone around an entire track.

Not to mention that shaking the remote would kinda loose that whole "rhythm" concept used with the Bongos.

Nintendo is killing Donkey Kong ;_;

I want a f**king platformer dammit, and a non-gimmicky one at that. All the Donkey Kong games that came out for the Cube used the effing bongos.

...isn't there any way they could make it use the bongos? At all?

Yea, they are trying to be 'innovative.' I'll admit that for most games the controls sound weird but once you play it they are comfortable, but these controls sound down right awful.

ATTN: Nintendo

The Wii Remote is great and all but leave this game with the ****ing bongos. That's why it's called BONGO BLAST.

Your pal,
Larry.

Nintendo needs to occationally stay with the norm so not to completely derail every game series.

So you WANT to have to swing your arms up and down rapidly for a good 2 or 3 minutes around each course?

If the mechanism relies on faster shaking for better speeds, then yes that's retarded.

But as it is, I'm imagining more of it being rhythm oriented still, looking more like you're imitating a drumming motion rather than flopping your hands around like a tardo. That goes out the window if faster shaking means faster speed, but if it's just a steady shaking then you're not going to have to swing your arms wildly.

Steady shaking is going to be a problem when you want to turn a corner, and even steady shaking to move is a poor mechanic in a racing game.

I'd assume it'd be fast and rhythmic, since it's still based on the same game and in DK Jungle Beat you had to tap pretty darn fast just to move...

The mechanics for this sound really poor and un-fun. Heck the game looked rubbish to begin with, but I can't see this as being a fun game to play.

On the bright side it means I can beat people who aren't willing to keep it up. Anyone can hold an A button to accelerate.

Actually, thinking of the motion this reminds me of World Class Track Meet for the NES. That was awesome in two player.

Nintendo needs to prove that they can make a DK platformer game without Rare

I WANT to have a DK game that actually uses locations and characters from the Donkey Kong COUNTRY franchise, thank you.

yse plz.

I'm a bit disappointed that the chances of Krunch making a comeback look grim, but I still like that they're doing something with the Kremling Krew, even adding the first female Kremling (which looks like it'll be Dixie's Kremling counterpart, and there could be another one for Tiny).

Also, Paon is the company behind the game people, the same people behind DK King of Swing. This is not the same group who made Jungle Beat (Nintendo EAD Tokyo) or the Konga games (Namco).

I like to think of this more as being developed a last hurrah for the bongo controller (well, when it started as a GCN title) and Paon's way of trying to substitute for the lack of Donkey Kong Racing, not trying to keeping up a trend of gimmicky DK games. I'm not going to complain that it isn't a platformer, and there's a chance Paon might try that out in the future.

Though I'm hoping the game at least allows you the option of using the Bongo controller.

I know this is a double post, but woah, it's Rambi and Enguarde!

Enguarde being in the game was already revealed, but still.
