QUOTE
A New York teenager broke into AOL networks and databases containing customer information and infected servers with a malicious program to transfer confidential data to his computer, AOL and the Manhattan District Attorney's Office allege.

In a complaint filed in Criminal Court of the City of New York, the DA's office alleges that between December 24, 2006 and April 7, 2007, 17-year old Mike Nieves committed offenses like computer tampering, computer trespass, and criminal possession of computer material.

I'd like, give him a high five and all, except the whole jail thing.

Reminds me of the Dr. Who broadcast hack thing that was posted a few days ago.

But yeah, to have all that skill go to waste.

And a IM service, and a web browser...

Seriously, I don't get why you guys (read: most people in this topic by the time of this post) completely HATE AOL. I know everyone has their prefrences, and some like MSN more than other stuff, and that some people hate AOL, but it gets old whenever you see a mention about AOL taking a hit and then people come in all "YEEAHHHHHHHHH **** YOU AOL HAHA TAKE THAT YOU WORTHLESS B*****S". It's annoying. Stop.

Also this was a pretty neat thing that kid did, dispite it being illegal and all.

Yeah, I dislike the AOL service but you know, there other things aren't that bad.

Pretty smart kid, but now I'm but into question as to how strong AOL's security really is.

How did he come to the conclusion it was a good idea to hack a huge internet corporation and have the virus SEND INFO BACK TO HIS OWN COMPUTER?

Seriously you guys are not even thinking for one second how it effected other people. Sure no one likes AOL except soccar moms but is that worth stealing people's money?

Well uh, I think that's better than manually transferring them.

I mean, I don't know anything, but wouldn't installing a rootkit on it and letting some program siphon the info be a better solution than c&p stuff?

do you think a seventeen year old guy somewhere would actually do that

if you're able to truly hack a company, you should also know that using the stolen credit cards would get you in even more trouble with the law than just compromising their security

or something

I'd also like to say that It never once said that he used/intended to use any of the data for a financial gain in any ways, and it's not clear if customer data was even stolen.
