And I didn't get what part of the movie reminded people of The Mask, but it might be because I haven't seen that movie in a long time.

Spoilers:
Probably the whole thing with Mary Jane as a waitress/singer and Peter coming to be an asshole and dance in front of everyone.

If that had happened, I would have liked the movie a hell of a lot more.

Nah, and I think it's actually supposed to just be dark rings under his eyes and not really makeup. It does show him combing his hair down though.

Asshole Peter Parker is pretty entertaining though

Well here we are, it was about time this year's movies got "started". As you probably know Spiderman 3 is the first in an insane amount of blockbusters. Mostly sequels and it's never been a better time to be a movie goer. Before I start, I want to get it out there that I am a huge fan of Spiderman. I grew up with the 90s TV show and have loved all the movies. Everything in the moves has been fantastic. The directing, acting, CGI, story, music, everything. But how much longer could they keep that up?
The movie starts off where we leftt Peter. He's at the top of his game. He has the job, the girl, and the fame. So like any other comic book plot, everything starts to go wrong when a mysterious space rock crashes and black ooze starts to come out. But on top of that Flint Marko has escaped from prison and is on the run. Somehow he manages to wind up in a particle test field successfully transforming him into Sandman. On top of all this Harry Osborn has injected himself with his Father's fatal chemicals and started his revenge against Peter. This is where this film starts to feel different. Already we're force fed three plots. Already all plots are in motion and things only get more crowded from here on.
Confused? I'm not done yet. Mary Jane seems to be struggling with her career. A new girl is in town. Peter's busy getting ready to propose, and someone is after his job. I could continue on but I'd like to get some of my opinions in this munchie as well. Now we're past that, each character does not get enough screen time. There is simply no character development that made the other films amazing. Characters from the comic are wasted with small roles while others are given cheap thin plots. Somehow, the two and a half hour runtime is simply not enough.
There are still other things that feel completely out of place. I have no idea why Kirsten Dunst had to sing two songs, or why Tobey Maguire was featured in a hard-to-watch celebration(?) scene. And on top of all that no character feels like they did in other movies. Harry becomes nice and strange. Peter turns into a complete ass hole. And MJ starts to care too much about herself. I guess the worst part of this movie was the one thing that made it stand out from every other Superhero movie. The characters.
Now that all that's out of the way, believe it or not Spiderman 3 is not a bad film despite all my complaining. In fact I enjoyed it and would certainly see it again. It's just not Spiderman quality. The action scenes are awesome, and the characters you love are somewhat back. It just suffers from too much with too little depth. The music feels a bit emptier now that Elfman is gone. And the CGI wasn't as nice as before. But inspite of all this we get some awesome villians, great acting again, and a pretty good overal movie going experience.

Stan Lee and Bruce Campbell's parts were awesome.

Bruce Campbell and Stan Lee are NOT funny.

Movie is a 10/10 for delivering an entertaining movie with cool visuals and an awesome plot.

I just saw the movie and I seriously love it.
True that it had alot of story and not as much action, but it all builds up kinda.

The scene with the New Green Goblin battle was awesome and speedy.
And the Sandman is a cool character, I didn't really like him at first but I grew to like him through the movie.

and Venom is the best thing to happen to the movie, he looked so badass, and the final fight with him near the end was incredibly wicked.

However I wished they made a cliffhanger near the end showing the symboite survived a little and make Carnage or something.

Spoilers:
Also Doc Ock appears to be alive or something in one of the daily bungle scence

If they ever make a Spiderman 4 they need to use The Lizard and Mysteryio and maybe a Rhino cameo or something.
Hell even Kraven or Electro would do nicely.

I don't care what you guys think, Bruce Campbell was funny and the movie was badass. Also Prometheus, no one except Spidey and MJ know what Doc Ock's fate was.

So like any other comic book plot, everything starts to go wrong when a mysterious space rock crashes and black ooze starts to come out.

Nuh uh, they gotta sell comic books, so these things are dragged out. In the symbiote suit's case, there was a whole separate arc called the "Secret Wars" where Spider-Man fought along many other Marvel superheroes and damaged his suit in the process.

Thing had gotten a new suit in the process, so he asked him where the hell he managed that. Thing told him there was a machine aboard Battleworld that would make him whatever suit came to his mind. Spider-Man thought he knew immediately what machine this was, because he had seen one earlier with a spot for someone's head. Lo and behold the symbiote comes out of this machine, but Spider-Man still thinks about his "perfect costume" and it forms into what we know as the symbiote suit now.

P.S. they could have never done that in a movie without wasting a lot of time and possibly producing some crossover flicks first, so the insta-meteor works and probably would have been cheapened by exposition, even if it is jarring to just have the suit appear.

Lotsa mixed opinions here!

In my opinion, the movie would have been the best of the trilogy if the running time had been longer. Like Mario Gamer said, most characters didn't have enough screen time, especially Venom (excluding Topher Grace since he's like at every scene Spidey's at).

And it's not like they had a low budget either. I mean, over $250 mill!

yes i did my research

So did I. To get technical, it's $258,000,000, and the highest budget produced with dollars.

Highest budget produced? That came out weird. I meant to say that it is the highest budget of a movie ever produced.

Just came back from it, and I thought it was amazing. It should have been called "The Amazing Peter Parker" instead of Spiderman seeing how he barely has his mask on.

It also leaves open for a sequel. Anyone doesn't believe me hightlight this.

Spoilers:
Prof. Conners has a piece of the symbiote still. Most likely a spawn of itself. Perhaps Conners will use it and Lizard genes to help him regrown his arm. Also it could lead up to a Carnage.

That's all assuming a third one is even made. Sam Raimi from what I understand, is pretty much done with Spiderman, and Toby/Dunsts won't be doing it unless he does it... or something.

After the third one, I dunno how they could make it worse, but if they were to do a Carnage storyline, it'd suck if they used Sam Raimi again, because of his dislike of Venom.

Also, just replace Toby and Dunsts with Topher Grace and the chick who played Gwen Stacy because they were awesome.

I really don't think they'd do Carnage justice.
