All Right., Another Nintendo mistake with artworks

Am I the only one who paid attention to the greatest answer to this?

So, you mean you can get one official sketch of Baby Mario, from Nintendo?

What?

The original sketches given to the people who create the sprites (or they could sometimes be the same people) or models for 3D games can be different from the official art that is later created for promotional purposes.

I don't know what you're asking otherwise, but you probably can't get the original sketches unless they saved them.

... wait, I don't think I know any spriter here that gets any sketches from any designer. Hell, when I wanted a boat sprite for Mario Spy, I talked to one of my spriters and said "Make me a cool Mario-looking boat" and there it was.

Seeing as this topic is about Nintendo's official sprites, I'm obviously talking about REAL SPRITERS and Nintendo's in-game graphic artists when I talk about the steps that go into spriting for a Nintendo game.

You telling me I'm not a spriter is just ridiculous. I don't need to be a spriter to know about how sprites are really made, from conceptual to what we see in a game.

And because of this knowledge, I know that wasting your brain power on thinking about whether or not promotional artwork or the sprite of a game is official or not or if the spriters made a mistake is... God, stupid? Retarded? Ridiculous? Crazy?

But if the official spriters make the in-game sprites based on sketches given by the designers, it's better to be based upon in-game sprites, right?

If you are making fan sprites you base them on whatever the **** you want because you're the one making the fan sprites.

If you're going by... heh, "canon" (I use the term loosely when speaking of Mario games) you can base them on anything that's official. Sketches, sprites, promo art.

I'm still wondering how the process of official spriting is going to help an unofficial spriter figure out what the hell colour to use for a particular item when two concepts are different.

Joey, calm down. He's posting something he found interesting, not complaining that the spriters are doing a bad job...

It's not. I'm explaining myself on a slightly unrelated subject.

What does help is, ...well, let me put it this way: It's shoes. Mario's shoes have changed from sprite to promo art in a lot of games, why would this game be any different?

There is no "right" or "wrong." They're both right. Use either one. If there's someone that actually cares, and sees that your fan sprite has red shoes and not blue and goes ape-**** over it, then that's their personal problem. They should calm down.

This is interesting, but isn't really that much of a big deal. Maybe Nintendo just decided to change the shoe's color to blue at the last minute, it really doesn't mean anything critical. I don't know anything about being a spriter, but can't you just recolor the shoes if you think they don't look right?

Yeah. I rather think it's a stupid worry myself, but unfortunately I've learned in the past not to ignore the simplest things.

Because if you ignore the stupidest things, there's always one idiot who complains about it, followed by a huge group agreeing with him who never would have even noticed it/complained about it had he not pointed it out.

Then you tell them to shut up because you're the creator of said fan game, not them.

And lose daily Customer Appreciation Day?

I wonder if anyone's ever brought up a similar discussion concerning the very marked difference between the Koopa Kids' colors in SMW and their colors in the artwork for the game? Of course, that must have been at least partly due to palette limitations.

i noticed this to but Nintendo was probably to lazy to fix it. But it is a nice touch

Jesus, they probably changed it because it looked weird. It was blue in other games if I remember right.

As far as I'm concerned both look fine.

Yeah, I don't think it was a mistake. Would someone have just made a coloring mistake like that - in every pose of the sprite?
