Things like this only prove my above point even further.

If I haven't made this clear already, by the way, I am not trying to be like, "The staff makes too many mistakes!!! This is ridiculous!!!" The staff do a fine job overall, and most submissions are decent from what I've seen. It's just that once in a while bad ones creep in, which in my view may as well be taken off, since they consume bandwidth and aren't useful.

June 1st isn't really a cleanup date btw. Nothing has ever been discussed. I should also reiterate that just because I think it's a good idea, doesn't mean one will actually happen, either.

oh well tell us if everything is discuses or any update about the clean up.

Except you did. Let's face it, SMB and 8Bit sprites, and "KOOL KRAP!" sprites are utterly useless and bad.

I haven't read the rest of this thread except for the first page, but, wow.

Please stop accepting SMB and 8Bit sprites. They are useless, and don't follow the rules of being 8Bit.

If I understand rightly, Parakarry didn't accept the ones he's talking about, but two other staffers did. He probably didn't know about those ones until they were on the site already.

But, seriously, there's got to be someone on the staff that's sleep-accepting.

It has to be at least two people because of the approval system too.

Yeah, the site NEEDS a clean up. There's just too many duplicate/useless submissions.

But most of the bad sprites I either haven't seen or said no to. I'm not the only one on the site who adds things, even if I'm one of the more active people.

1.) Yes, we are aware the 8bit sprites suck. I'm going to decline them on sight, as they are tarnishing my memories of SMB1

2.) If you think we've made a mistake accepting something, by all means let us know. We're kinda slow on the site PM box, I'll admit, so if we don't pay attention just PM us on the forums or IM us.

Probably would be a good time to start with the game submission thumbnails/previews... since we're getting complaints about awful quality and by my standards, they're currently the worst offenders.

I've got into the habit of accepting things if there of reasonable quality and quantitiy, since that was the standard of around the time I joined the staff. There's just so much more now and so many new members that it seems the quality of stuff has declined, when in reality it's more-or-less remained the same (apart from the odd one or two). Whereas it may look as though we're slacking off and accepting crap, you really do have to look at the queue to see the sheer amount of things declined. In fact, with the ID numbers of all the submissions, you can work it out for yourself.

Bear in mind also things are accepted that I would have declined... Not all the staff think the same thoughts as each other. You shouldn't go grouping us as a whole just because of one lousy acceptance.

Oh and not all the "8-bit" sprites suck. I just worry about things that get through that are simple recolours, and those who spend 5 seconds drawing things in paint to pass off the NES sprite colouring rules.

Yes, there are some really badass SMB-looking sprites.
But most are just ugly.
