I'm making a Paper Mario styled game on GM6.1, but since I dont know how to do 3D I'm making it 2D. So I was wondering, how do you make it so that when you move above an object (or behind as it may seem) to go above Yoshi (I'm using Yoshi), so that it looks like it is going behind it in 3D.

Oh, and here's my game so far.
Credit to RII for the sprites.

In the object properties, below name, sprite and Solid/Visible, you will see depth. Set it to something like -100000 to make it come ahead, and 100000 to make it go behind. this depends on Yoshi's depth. If you plan on making a pip come in front of a wall that has a negative depth, make the wall -10 and the pipe -20.

Change Yoshi's depth relative to his y coordinate. If his y is smaller (i.e., he's drawn up further on the screen), he should be behind stuff, so make his depth larger. If his y is larger (he's further down), make his depth smaller so that he appears in front of things. Stationary objects, like bushes and stuff, should be given a fixed depth that is also inversely related to their y coordinates.

For this to work well, you should probably make the sprites have their origin at the center bottom.
