I've looked this up online, and I'm pretty certain it's not an urban myth, just to get that out of the way.

Basically, Shane Bernier, who has acute lymphoblastic leukemia, is trying to break a world record for most birthday cards recieved in one year, his 8th birthday being May 30th (I would've mentioned this sooner, but, well, I found out about it today). I couldn't find the address in the article I posted, but apparently http://shanebernier.ca/ has it. I'm not sure how much of a response this'll get, but I figured it was worth posting. Supposedly, at around February, he was recieving about 1,000 per day.

I made a card for him at my school in early February. So did all my class.

His grandfather and his mother let all their friends and acquaintances know and that's when the world record quest began. Now, between the Internet, radio and television coverage, his mother, Nathalie, figures they've collected 10,000 and the cards keep coming.
HOLY DAMN!

Cool, my 6800th post.

QUOTE
Craig Shergold, a former cancer patient in Britain, is the current record holder. In 1989 while receiving treatment for his cancer, Shergold put out a request for postcards to break the world record. Millions of cards began pouring in and continued to come even after a successful surgery removed the cancer.

Thanks in part to an e-mail chain letter, people continued sending Shergold postcards for more than a decade until the family was forced to move.

To avoid a similar situation, Guinness World Records retired Shergold's record of more than 350 million.

That means Bernier will not be able to officially break the record. Despite that, people across the province have been setting up similar campaigns as the one that the Timmins Cub Pack was involved with Wednesday.

Bummer!
