Well, my friend (newtkid304) rented it and I went over to his house and played it, (for 7 1/2 hours, oh yeah!) and it was great1 It's lost a bit of the magic though, like making all of the items into candy, which may have been done earlier. I don't know if it has because I haven't played 4, 5, 6, or 7 because I don't have a gamecube and rarely play one. But in Mario Party 2 and 3, they use actual items, which I like better. The board maps are also getting less exciting I think. They couldn't just stick to the simple star pads?! They have to make you invest in hotels, steal them from other players, etc. The only reason I like it is because of the many characters and the nice extras.

My little brother just got it, and I think it's a lot of fun, although, i haven't played any of the others.
I think the wii remote really makes the game much more fun and addictive. And although all the mini games are really short, there are so many, you hardly play the same one twice. And actually I like the board games, even though it's almost totally luck, this game is a lot of fun, though I still prefer Wario Ware.

in 5, 6, and 7 items are "orbs", and then in one of them they call the items "capsules" , we're not stupid we know that they are the same thing...
About the boards having different objectives and strategies... if you've played the gamecube ones, you can tell that a sequel isn't much different when its the same game over and over with different maps, they tried to spice it up a little bit, althoguh they already did the investment sort of thing with this windmill level I think in mario party 6, I don't remember which one.
One thing I like is the different camera angles, if you play mario party 4, it kind of reminds you of the stale 1 direction camera, that can only pan, like luigi's mansion had

It was 7 with windmills and the only difference with hotels is that they chnge size. The pirate goomba I think was like the level where you give kung foo koopa or whatever his name coins for stars. The bowser level is like the chain chomp levels.
