Except I remembered what Culex looked like and I was like OH HELL NO.

It'd take me all month.

I had to improvise a little on Culex, but he came out pretty good and evil-looking, which was what I was aiming for. Now I just have to finish coloring.

My entry, finally. I know, I went a little overboard with paint shop pro, but what can I say, I wanted to capture the mood of the battle perfectly. I made sure to make it look like Mario & party were losing the fight, since it is the hardest boss in the game after all.

On a side note, I really suck at drawing wings.

I couldn't find a pic of him, I had to look at the sprite. @_@

Can you explain how it "doesn't really look like culex"? So I'll... know better next time or something?

I mean,

-He's big, muscley and purple
-he's got red glowy eyes
-he has one horn pointing up and one pointing down
-he has shiny wings
-he has the bloody-red veins
-he's attatched to some glowy rock or ice-like.. thing

What am I still missing?

He's probably just looking for the pixely shading and purple aura, which of course changes when you're drawing him nice and big.

Did you spend all of this time drawing him? I wish I could be that direct in my work...

In any case, great drawing =P

The only thing off about Culex is the head. In the sprite he looks like he has hair, and a more human face. Other than that, great entry.

And the purple stuff around Culex in his SPRITE that looks like electricity.. it's not an aura, I don't think. I always thought of it as like.. some stringy gross stuff hanging from his arms and body, since it never moved like electricity or an aura.

Very nice, Fanguy. Only thing is, the gradient stuff for the crystals under his body looks lazy-like and not like what it's supposed to be. And his body doesn't look as completely and utterly gross looking as it really does in his sprite, veiny and bulgy and what have you. Although I guess you ARE doing it in YOUR style.. Culex isn't exactly from the Mario world and is completely different from the rest of the characters in a completely different style in the game itself. I think you nailed the shape, and the colouring's alright, but it just doesn't look like the uber Culex he really is. Awesome picture nonetheless.


I think of Culex as a gross-looking human god thing. Completely human with exaggerated features, and horns, and that crystal crap under there whatever that is. Think God*Kefka, but more purple and veiny.


EDIT: Oh, and you're missing his hair. He has this DBZ-like hair or something, if you look closely. Resembles CAT's too.
