It's been six long years since the gang first brought us into the world of crime. In one of the best movies ever made in my opinion, Clooney and his band of buddies pulled off the best crime ever and made a clean get away. Or so they thought. In 2004's shaky sequel the gang came back in one of the most confusing plots of all time. So I'm a bit surprised that I'd be seeing Thirteen. But I'm even more surprised that the gang has done it again.
With no plot from previous films, the movie starts out with newcomer Al Pacino double crossing one of the original eleven. Of course the group does not respond to this so well and develops a plan to get even. What ensues is another classic, hilarious, action filled, charismatic trip that is led by several amazing actors. Everyone is back except for the girls (who didn't do that much anyway) and each character hasn't changed a bit. The plot hits the ground running but never gets to complicated, in fact having seen it twice, it does take a second time to pick up on all the hints. Both times I got my money's worth and enjoyed it all the way through.
The cast working with and off each other is what makes this film. It's what made the second one watchable, even with a horrible excuse for a script. Cheadle, Pitt, Clooney, Damon, Reiner, Affleck, and Caan standout from the group and are simply incredible. In the past two films we've been brought amazing scores by David Holmes and this time is no different. I strongly suggest picking up this soundtrack as it is without doubt the best of the three. The only problem I had with the movie was the semi-weak ending, but even then it got the job done.
While not as good as the first film, it surpasses the second film in every way possible. So with an amazing script, unforgettable characters, incredible sets and CGI, superior music, and an all out fun experience, why miss this?
