Also, like I told RII on AIM, I think it would be wise if the new mods were forum-specific instead of global mods. The place is getting so big now that I think the mods could work better as a team if they only had one forum to deal with each, instead of being tasked with logging on only to have about 20 reported posts in their inboxes to sort through. If the mod only has to moderate the GC, then they'll only have a handful of posts to sort through each day, and will be more likely to pay attention to the reports and take action where necessary.

I pity whoever wants to mod the PPP though, as that's where most of the reported posts come from - which is a good indication that the people saying it needs a bit more regulation have the right idea.

like it was stated by quite a few people in the forum restructuring topics, it's probably better to just get rid of the PPP entirely and merge a ****less-PPP-type idea with the GC

May I reccommend one or two GC mods, and three PPP mods?
I see the GC and everything else to be about the same size as the PPP.

That's the best idea I've read to come out of this topic. It makes the most logistic sense, and it relieves the stress put on said moderators. Guys, this is the way of the future.

Personally I would like to actually get back into the saddle I left if this idea came to pass. Sounds a lot less stressful than trying to keep up with the entire forum.

I love this suggestion, Klobber. If a situation were to get out of hand, it would be easily and quickly handled by a moderator who is assigned to that certain forum.

I like this, although there could be a problem when some mods have less to do than others but still have the same priveledges. You'd need a rotary system for it to be fair, and I'm not sure if that would work if mods aren't around or whatever.

But then again if the PPP is split/pruned considerably it might not be such a hassle to moderate it.

Klobber's idea is good, though I thought of something that could be an issue with it:

What if, for example, a dupe spams porn in the PPP only, and there are mods of other forums on, but no PPP mods? With global mods, this isn't a problem, since they can take care of a problem anywhere it happens. Of course, there would probably still be global mods (the ones that are mods now), if I understand correctly, and if there were enough forum-specific mods I don't know if this would really be a problem usually.

This is why we need multiple mods assigned to each forum.

Again, the case of timezone-specific mods overrules.

That's one of the main reasons I nominated Elly for.

QUOTE (Grant @ Jun 18 2007, 10:12 PM)
I just found out something interesting which I never knew before while reading the Wiki.

Yoshiman "was once moderator during the age of the EZBoard, but lost the power with a few others when the board got rid of EZBoard and moved to Invision."

So apparently he has had experience already. :o

Well, in those days I gave mod powers to pretty much anybody who asked, so let's not take that into account. ;D

QUOTE
Again, who is Grant? He hasn't even been around for a year, so that's another reason why I wouldn't nominate him.

Fun fact: Shadowman wasn't around for a year yet when we first hired him.

It wouldn't be too tough to mod the PPP if you have no life or you are the grand multi-tasker. Or maybe I just say that because either one applies to me, and I find the time and patience to shoot off reports left and right about threads and replies that don't belong.

I think a good communication system works to make the job easier too. Report button, PMs, AIM, Xfire, IRC (<= yesyes to keep the PM boxes from getting full)

Can a mod of one forum move posts to another forum? Like, PPP to GC for example?

They should be able to. I can move stuff out of the Submit-it to any public forum I like, and probably merge them as well.

Then multiple PPP mods can probably get a whole lot done, with one GC mod, under normal circumstances.

Klobber thats a Great idea.
it whould be a good way to fix spam & flame that happen when no mods/admins are around.

but who to pick?

i pretty much trust the choice of the admins when it comes to new Mods/staff.
every time i'v seen an mod/staff update, theres been a very well suted member for the jop, like Black Squirrel & jeff to name just a few.

so i'm not really worry'd for the choices of who they pick.

I'd really like to apply for a GC mod. I'd be willing do my part when there is a spam attack or if someone is rude to another. The GC is more of my field anyway.
