I’ve brought it up at least five times before in the PPP but I don’t think we’ve actually got to have a full GC discussion about it. Now I’ll admit that the main two things that are making me propose this are the Mega Man Skin and the way we talked about a lot more than just Mario long before we had that skin added. However I’ve also noticed that people have been posting fan games here that don’t star Mario (or a copyrighted character for that matter). I think it would be nice if they were given the opportunity to put those onto the site as well. I really think changing the name of this place would help expand the field for the site. I don’t think giving it a total name change will be necessary, just maybe changing the M from Mario to Mega or something like that would work perfectly. Keep in mind that changing the name of this place doesn’t mean we will have to change anything else here. Rather than that what it will do is extend on what we already have. This won’t be forcing us to get rid of anything nostalgic on the forum like the smiles or previous Mario themed skins (aside from changing the word Mario to Mega) because the focus of this place would still be fan gaming as a whole.

There’s most of my view on this. I think that expanding the focus of this place would be a good audition to the recent arrangements that occurred here today. Please feel free to voice how you feel about this. I’d like to see how you guys feel about this.

But then would be the problem of me not playing every friggin' megaman ZX/Naruto game.
I would get kinda miffed, because I wouldn't know what would go where.

Also, I think the CMS we're using on the mainsite is kinda not built for anything bigger, unless we rearrange the whole thing or something...

I'm for keeping the current name. We talk about a broad range of things and I'm glad the Megaman skin was implemented, but I'd like the main focus of this board to still be MFGG related. Partly because it's always been that way and also because then it loses it's unique identity. Changing the name seems like it'd be quite a hassle 8(

edit: And definitely not changing the main site and what it accepts.

I see, I was kind of cautious of the amount of different stuff we could actually hold at one time on the main site but I didn't know the actual limits so I figured I could give it a shot.

We can hold infinite amounts of stuff.

Until we run out of disk space.

Its just that organizing all of it....and finding the things you want... no. D:

No.

Not because it's a bad idea, but Bowser Tech did it, and Bowser Tech became MFGG because it didn't quite work. No point in repeating the past or fixing what it's broken, and besides, in theory it would run Zelda Fan Game Network and Metroid Fan Mission into the ground because MFGG gets so many hits.

However, if someone is willing to make, say a MegaMan fangames site, provided Retriver II allows, TCSMS could still be used.

From what I remember, Bowser Tech was just TD's personal homepage for his fangaming projects. I think you may thinking of NFGC (or something along those lines, they used to be an MFGG affiliate).

Anyway, I'm not for expanding what content the site handles. My reasons:
1 - MFGG would lose it's "identity"
2 - More files, more server load, more members, more chaos in general
3 - Quality control would be tough and those attracted by the allure of a Mario fangaming site would be driven away by the lack of focus, a project like this seems way too ambitious and could possibly run out of steam and run MFGG down into the ground

But the reason I joined the site was because of Mario, I don't want MFGG to give that up now.

I'd rather that we keep the current name; besides, I'm a fan of the Mario game series overall, and this is the best place for fan-made games that are based on it. :P

No, I don't endorse this idea. First of all, MFGG is a well-known site. We don't want to alter the name and purpose. That just wouldn't make sense.

There are plenty of all-purpose amateur game and fangame sites; MFGG is the only Mario-specific one to receive any sort of significant attention. If we just started accepting anything, we'd lose what makes us unique.

I see no reason to change it. The main site has enough to keep up with just supporting Mario. The forum is more open for your own benefit.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, and risk getting annoyed replies. Not a good idea at all, IMO, in any way, shape, or form. I don't mean any offense toward 123James, of course, but this idea I just can't stand. If the focus were formally changed, this is fairly obviously what would happen. Since people would be encouraged to make any sort of non-Mario fangames as well as Mario ones, and people will probably start only making fangames from game series they personally prefer. And then what would happen? Tons and tons of non-Mario fangames, and only a relative few Mario fangames. Sure, there are a lot of Mario fans here already, but people joining after the change would take place would more likely than not be coming just for fangames in general, on account of the changed focus, and pretty soon the place will be mainly populated by people with not that much interest in Mario. These sorts of things will ruin everything for those of us who came here specifically for Mario fangames (like myself), because we won't be able to play Mario fangames as often, because decreased attention may be paid to our games because of people predominantly paying attention to fangames based on whatever game franchise appeals most to them, and just because the focus on Mario, the game series we're principally interested in as far as this site is concerned, is gone. There are other fangame sites, like for Sonic and doubtless other series as well, and other forums could be made for fangames based on other franchises; it's not like MFGG is the only fangaming site. Why take away what makes MFGG special?

No, keep the name as is, I see no reason to change it. It's been Mario Fan Games Galaxy for quite a long time now, and the name has stuck, so why change it really? It's just going to cause more confusing and complaining the way I see it.
