I wonder why people dislikes Star Fox Assault so much. The game had great music and grapichs, and a high replay value in the Versus mode. I know that the way you played in the ground has terrible, but Nintendo wanted to make the fans see that the Star Fox team is not just Arwings, and, yes, the pilots, too. They're not going to die only because they don't have thier Arwings. What Nintendo wanted to tell is THAT THEY DON'T DEPENDS ON THEY ARWINGS. They're also able to use weapons, like Blasters and Snipers. I hated when Nintendo made Star Fox Command an Arwing-only game. That made look like that Fox and the others can't accomplish missions when they're without they airships! I don't know if SFC had, at least, cutscenes with the characters doing things outside the Arwings, but if not, then Nintendo screwed a fantastic theory just because gamers don't liked the way they walked outside the Arwing in SFA. If they gave Nintendo another chance, it could even look for another company that could do the ground moviments better than Namco's, and it even could did a better game with Arwings AND a good ground moviment!

Finnally,The game, itself, can have terrible controls (that's not my opinion), but the theory about the Star Fox team not to depend only on they Arwings is incredible! It's like an ficctional S.W.A.T.!

Give your opinion!

I hate SFA because of the Ground stuff.
it took me a ****ing half hour to beat that one level where you needed to shoot all these floating things in the city.
and once I did succeed I died by the first shot on the Wolf Airwing.

I thought it was okay. It needed more Airwing action though. The controls also needed a major overhaul

Dammit, this isn't a Street Fighter Alpha topic.

I never bothered to play Assault in single player, but in multiplayer it was great and dare I say better than the multiplayer found in 64 and Command.

Just imagine a Halo-ish Star Fox game, but with Arwing stages, too. S-W-E-E-T!

the ground missions wouldve been ok if the controls werent so goddamn terrible

why the hell would you have aiming and moving on the same control stick(Landmaster)?

plus there wasnt enough arwing action or branching paths

also multiplayer is cool

I never played the multiplayer, but I had issues with the single player:

- The ground missions just flat out sucked, I know they were trying to mix things up a little but they were just poorly done in my opinion, walking around looking for targets while blasting hundreds of enemies who all looked pretty much the same got boring quickly

-No branching paths, which added a lot of replayability to SF64

-The character's personalities seemed a little off, especially Falco who wasn't nearly as smartassed as he usually was

It just felt like a big step down from SF64, could have stood to have some more levels, branching paths and the ground missions needed some serious polishing. Music was great though, and I think it would have been pretty good if they just worked on it a bit longer and added more flying missions.

I love Assault. The only complaint I have with it are the Landmaster levels. Those things are pure hell.

The on-foot and Landmaster controls were awful, as you have to stop in order to aim, making you vulnerable while trying to aim. Not to mention it took you like ten minutes to do a 180 spin on both. Also, rolling/dodging on-foot and on Landmasters was pointless, since you stopped after rolling, making you vulnerable and thus destroying the point of dodging. If they had kept it to where you walked/moved automatically, I think the whole thing would have been completely fixed.

There's also the lack of alternative routes, plus ten missions is pretty short compared to SF64's total of 18 (I think?)

And there's the obvious attitude problems, Falco isn't bad-ass for some reason and Slippy isn't a complete wuss, even though he still sucks in combat. Wolf wasn't bad-ass either, and Leon was just WTF. Then again, I guess the seven yera span in the story between SF64 and SFA could contribute to that, but still.

Plus the story mode missions themselves were really lacking. Nothing really jumped out and made you go "Wow!" or "Awesome!" or made you gasp in fear or surprise.

Multiplayer was fun though. Best multiplayer to a Star Fox game yet. Wolf is cheap as hell. :P

the only thing awesome about was the multi! sniping someone outside of the cockpit while in midflight is one of the best way to kill someone. also, that multiplayer desert stage was really cool

I like Assault. The only things I don't really like about it are the ground missions are a bit frusterating and that damn final boss. *****, I had full life before I went up against you. sad.gif

I need to buy it soon.

I also like SF:Assault. I'm not too fond of the bot-less multiplayer (I don't have anyone else to play it with...) and on Corneria, it was just too darn hard to shoot those radar jammers before they got me...

Then personality problems, cheesy lines ("Let's go, team!"), and weird storyline make-up my other problems with the game.

But I think that ground missions could definitely be done better, and that they shouldn't be abandoned entirely. However, focus more on Arwings then on foot stuff (after all, that's the reason why StarFox first caught my attention, and there were only 3 rail levels).

I really like that game, actually. Whenever my friends are over, we most often play games like SF:A, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Four Swords Adventures or, nowadays, Mario Strikers Charged Football.
Single-player is a little half-good / half-bad, but I think that the splendid multiplayer kind of makes up for that.

Meh, the story was a bit weak and the ground missions a little un-polished, but it wasn't all that bad.

Just not as good as StarFox 64. The only real improvement was the graphics and Slippy's voice.

Slippy's voice was the only improved voice, if you ask me. Going from "which gender is he, really?" to "obviously a guy" cleared up any mysteries. nod.gif

Yeah and the Corneria level on foot was annoying when you're having to shoot down flying enemies from the ground despite the fact Slippy, Krystal and Falco have Arwings. Why the hell should you have to save them when Arwings are faster, stronger and armed to the teeth?

It was okay, but not as good as Star Fox 64 for all the reasons stated before: a somewhat-short linear story, awkward controls, and too much on-foot missions. Also, they reduced Peppy to a suicidal old coot. He's my favorite character. The only thing I like about it, though, is multiplayer. Me and my brother once had a mid-air shoot-out riding on two parallel Arwings flying at max height over Corneria City. That was awesome.

Oh, and
Spoilers:
too many characters died/seemed to die
