Paper Mario 2.5D

This is a little project that i have been working on for a couple of days. Its a "2.5D" view of the Mario scene using Paper Mario style graphics. These are the early stages of the game. You can download a sneak-peak demo below.

(Demo includes levels 1-1 through 1-4, also the platforms are messed up)

The controls are:
Move: Arrow keys
Jump: X
Run: Z

Not bad indeed, but the piranha's don't move correct, when you step on the pipe, then the piranha normally doesn't show up, but in your engine it thoes, you might want to change that.

This is a pretty good engine. I especially like the models you've used for the environment stuff. I was going to say this on the GMC, but I didn't. But I am now, so I'm good, right?

BTW, why are you using NSMB tiles for some of the newer levels? Not that there's anything wrong with that though...

Very impressive work so far, I must say. The models are really cool, especially. The thing is, there was apparently some considerable lag in 1-2 (~16-17 fps sometimes). Was this due to the number of objects in the room? If so, perhaps you should try the instance activation/deactivation technique, if you haven't implemented that already.

this is pretty good so far, I would however like to suggest that you make a HUD and make the level transitions smoother, like mario actually going down the pipe. Also, make dying a bit more like the usual.

i just uploaded the new version of the demo, check out the first post. It include level 1-1 through 1-4.

Please tell me what you think of the new levels.

Also dont mention the following in complaints:
- koopas are still being programmed
- room transitions
- mario dying
- HUD
oblivious stuff.

when ever you jump on the moving platform you get stuck and you can move and also the platform stops moving plz fix that...theres only been a couple times where this has not happened and if this dosent happen then instead it makes it so mario cant jump off the platform

Got stuck (literaly) a couple of times. Fix that. Example would be once i jumped on a moving platform and both the platform and mario stoped moving. All i could do was face left or right, and I was always stuck in the jumping position.

Fix the bugs, put something in the ? Boxes, and making it longer, and you will have a fabulous game.

It's kinda buggy but the graphics are amazing. The underground level is a little blue. I could help with the sprite palettes if you want.

I jump by making a vertical speed, but in 3D GM the Y and Z axis are switched and theres no varibles for the Z axis to define a jump headslap.gif
