Well, is it safe to say that I've developed my own anime style?

I grew up having a lot of anime-style influence in my art, so naturally I've tended to gravitate more towards that, but I've imitated so many styles and blended them all into my own unique style. In recent years, I've, however, tried to adapt an American feel to my art, trying to deviate a little away from the Japanese-esque style I'm so used to. I've been told by several people here and elsewhere that while I do have a manga-esque style, it's far enough from manga for it NOT to be called as such.

Most notably, my Humans and my Anthropes tend to have a very anime-ish look, whereas some of my monster characters have heavier American influences to them.

And if you really want to see how I used to draw some of my characters, give me a few minutes to finish what I'm coloring in Photoshop and I'll show you.

Sure. I noticed that you have your own style, I should have said something about that. I'd be interested to see how you drew your characters.

edit: Oh and my problem is I have a lot of inspiration but really I don't know where to start..

i actually try to avoid using straight lines on anything that isn't "man-made," so to speak

organic shapes 4 life

Yea, I said that kind of bad. I meant I can't produce smooth curves or anything like that. It's bad in both senses...if I want to draw a straight line, it'll be pretty warbled, and if I want to make a circle, it'll look sketchy and/or distorted.

I know there's some computer programs that help with this but I think a large part is my personal inability, as I've seen alot people do quick-free sketches without computers that have smooth lines 8(

I really need to start looking up tuts on how to ink and color things, because I usually only use MS Paint for coloring, and you have to be a really good pixel artist to make it look good, which is something I'm not.

This is an example of how I used to draw back in 1997-1998 (5th-6th grade)

That's pretty ass compared to what I have now.

The character up top is Tyrone, my oldest character as many of you know. This is his most current design - http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/50936202/

The character on the bottom, well that was around the time I started learning how to draw Sonic characters and the first character I learned how to draw effectively in my style back then was Knuckles. Naturally I had a lot of echidna characters as a result. Effectively, however, the echidna characters' designs could have evolved into this - http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/58567741/ , except I'm trying to get away from using any animals that Sega might use (aside from foxes since they're very common characters anyway), so I haven't decided what species Katsuran (or any of the other characters that are similar to him in design) might be. All I know for sure is that he's some kind of rodent.

And yes, I recreated the drawing up top in less than two minutes. It's a wonder that I still remember how to half-ass draw like that.

I think it's really cool how you still kept the same hair style for Tyrone from so long ago. And it's interesting to see how much you've improved.
Thanks for sharing this with me! I think the style you've developed is way cool, as you've probably heard 100s of times.

I've actually kept his hairstyle because it's one of the few I have that can actually be called unique amongst all the other characters I have. It makes him and all the other male members of his family stand out much more than the others too.
