EDIT: Also, can you add ModPlug as a sound editor/maker? I find it's very nice form composing all sorts of tracked music.

Sony ACID Music Studio is also good for composing some original music.

Well then your information is incorrect.

You can create particles and such with DnD in the registered version too.
The registered version only adds new functions to the game, for both DnD and GML.
DnD is just GML in button form, not more, not less.

Actually, DnD only has a small chunk of GML's capabilities. There are many features that require GML.

Either MUGEN (Doesn't seem to be listed) or any Game Creation tool built to create decent 2d games (Game Maker if you want something free).

I haven't tried MUGEN, but I heard it's good. You could give it a try.
