I liked the fights, but I hate the **** out of Dark Samus. Evil twins are unoriginal as it is, and reusing them in almost every new metroid game pisses me off. Why couldn't they have simply used a character like one of the hunters in Metroid Prime: Hunters?

Because the hunters are not agents of the Phazon... if I'm correct, Dark Samus is. And really, Dark Samus is way cooler than SA-X. I mean, SA-X was an exact clone of Samus, but Dark Samus is almost completely different, disregarding name and appearance...

I'm here to lay down the law of the metroid prime story to anyone ignorant to it:

Basically it goes like this...

Metroid Prime
This game starts of with Samus who has just destroyed planet Zebes (story of the first Metroid game) and has intercepted a call which leds her to a ship. This ship contains several experiments that the Space Pirates had conducted. They basically took phazon, a new element which came from a meteor that had crashed on the surface of the planet below their ship 20 years earlier, and tried to fuse it with creatures from the planet as well as themselves. Many of the subjects died, but those who survived made for some interesting boss battles. All of this was due to the phazon's unique property to bind to living creatures. A small group of Chozo had coincidentally, come to the planet a short while before the meteor carrying the phazon had crashed onto the planet. They wanted to get away from their technologically dominated society and be at peace with nature (i.e. hippies). It sucks to be them though as they too were effected by the phazon. The ones who survived being binded with phazon became ghost like creatures who lost thier minds and attacked anything they could. Some could control this urge and help Samus to get to the deep core of the planet where the greatest byproduct of the phazon lurked. Deep in this firey area was a metroid who have fused with phazon and keep absorbing more and more until becoming a beast the space pirates called metroid prime. This beast was hard to control and had escaped. During this escape the metroid prime fused with advanced space pirate weapons which were irremovable, but made the metroid prime almost invincible. With more phazon, the metroid prime would be invincible to all weapons. Space Pirates sought to use metroid prime in their army and longed for more and more of the phazon to enfuse their own troops and create a new standard in their military. With this super army the pirates would be unstoppable. Unfortunately for them, Samus eventually made her way down into crater and destroyed the armor that the metroid prime had enfused with, thus revealing what it truly looked like. After destroying this form, metroid prime was near death and made a desparate move. It grabbed on to the phazon suit that Samus had aquired earlier and stole it. OH NOES. Samus then escaped the crater and it asploded destroying the remaining phazon and metroid prime. However after the credits, with a 100% ending it reveals that the metroid prime had not been destroyed, but fused with the phazon suit and thus creating dark samus.

Metroid Prime 2:Echoes
This story starts with Samus getting a distress call from the Galactic Federation Marine Corps that were located on the planet, Aether. The Galactic Federation is the very organization that Samus bounty hunts for. Aether is located on the edge of Galactic Federation territory and after landing on the surface Samus soon learns that the planet is divided, but at the same time one in its own. Aether has a light side and a dark side, the light side home to the Luminoth. The dark home to the Ing. Further investigation reveals that a phazon meteor had hit this planet 80 years ago which divided the planet. This means that there are possibly more phazon meteors out there. My guess is that in MP3 you purify the planets that have been affected by phazon, take out Metroid Prime, and destroy the source of the phazon. Which is possibly a very large meteor. Anyway, Samus finds that the Space Pirates have also discovered the existance of phazon on Aether and are trying to build a base on its surface to continue their plan of creating a super army. After discovering that all the marines are dead Samus helps the only Luminoth awake to save the planet. The Luminoth warriors are dead, man. All other Luminoth people were put into cryonic stasis. Later, you find Dark Samus on the planet who is weaker than its original state as metroid prime, southside. Eventually you fight the leader of the Ing and destroy the entire dark world. The last time you see Dark Samus is with the fight with it in the dark world where you leave it to explode with the rest of the dark world, bo. After leaving a cutscene reveals blue particles just above the planets atmosphere where they fuses into dark samus. In the next Metroid Prime game Samus may need to use something very powerful to destroy this thing once and for all.
