Recent issues

I'm not interested in fads etc, I skip them but I don't blame them for the downfall of mfgg...If there are fads etc it's obviously because the majority of mfgg members like them. (I do find the 4chan thing pretty distasteful though because it's bringing adult entertainment to a MARIO website...I'm an adult, I like sexin' but this is not the right time to show off you have a sex drive, lots of people here are young.)

I don't complain myself about how the majority of people post any more because mfgg is not forced on any of us and afterall it is the MAJORITY that enjoy these things some of us are calling childish...Aslong as it doesn't involve anything offensive it's ok.

My point is that unless the members are purposely causing problems or trying to discredit the website then they are not the 1s harming the community. I find the mfggu stuff to be a cause of more problems instead of an alternative to mfgg.

If they wanted their own community they should have gone about it a proper way and had their own name. The majority of it's members don't actually make fangames or talk about mario...There's no point to take the name and say it's the old mfgg when it's nothing to do with mario or fan games.

My opinion is that mfggu should get it's own name and stop trying to mess with this community by trying to be mfgg for "cool" people only. The members of it just want to be their because it makes them feel special and preferred by the owners...

If this forum wants to be more about fan games then the staff aren't going about it the right way (I can't say all of them, I don't pay THAT much attention.).

I've seen Joey locks things for really small reasons in gc which just stop people from posting which is unecessary when there are so few posts in the gc anyway and now ppp is being moderated for pointlessness?

So you want gc to be 1 topic a day, maybe serious news about nintendo only or something. ppp to be what a gc should be and wpp to be what ppp should be?

I'd like to say RII definitely gets my respect he's the only person I can say I've never see use their position for a social advantage on here. I saw someone make a joke about him paying for this in the mfggu topic I think, he deserves thanks for that not mockery...

I wouldn't blame you for thinking that, man. I have to agree with what you are saying, things have hit a low around here and while I wouldn't mind being a part of MFGGU, I think the whole thing is a bit much.

I don't understand why they don't just get rid of FG altogether and tell everyone talk about thier fangames here in GC. I've hear about this 4chan all the time here but to be quite honest, I don't even know what 4chan is!

as far as i know, it would take something truly unique and special to get the old MFGG back for good

it's definitely obvious that people's attitudes have evolved towards the internet over the past few years, but this isn't happening with just MFGG, it's happening in a lot of other places too

And what would that be?
A mega-project that'd unite the community?
A super-special-awesome fangame that knocks everyone on their asses?

I wish I could help, but I'm among the many people here who do not make fangames.
I got ideas, sure, but nothing concrete.

It just won't happen.

there's really not much at all to do about bringing back the fangaming focus; a lot of the kids here don't care strongly or are embarrased by their lack of talent and the more competent people seem to hate the prospect of giving out source code or premade resources in general other than sprites and super-basic howtos

Well, you need to see distributing engines from a different perspective.

If a super engine was distributed to all the kids with GM and little experience, then we'd see that engine about 1000 more times from members like Hello, who would just tinker the level design each time.

so? doesn't tarnish the original engine's awesomeness because the original author had nothing to do with what the kiddies made, and people start out ****ty and in need of helping hands before they get good

I can see where you're coming from. They can gain experience from this, but a lot of them refuse to take apart the engine and learn what makes it tick. They just jump straight to the room editor and toss it out the door as a completed fangame.

if they don't do with some TOTALLY RADICAL NEW ENGINE they'll do it with clickteam's; it's their problem if they don't get it, not the engine author's for throwing pearls at swine, and which engine they're using won't make them see the light

I refuse to use anything if I can't learn what makes it tick. I learned that lesson a long time ago. Thusly, I never use engines.

if kiddies are left to their own devices with nothing they won't figure a thing out, it helps more than anything to give them a place to start where they can mess around with things until they develop an understanding of said things' workings

I just don't "get" just making new levels for engines. Then again, I'm pretty much a tinkerer - I look at how people do things, take them apart and slap them together and see what explodes.

We need more mad scientists.

For some reason use of a premade engine sucks out my creativity. Weird. I also refuse to use engines because I won't tolerate making a game with 2+ glitches.
