Don't you think the majority of people who play violent games play them because they cannot be voilent in the real world? Some people might drive it over the limit and actually do something like that from Doom or GTA or something and kill someone, but don't you think most younger gamers play violent games to actually do what they can't in the real world?

Dat is meh opinion. cool.gif

I'm gonna go play GTA and watch hookers blow up. Byess...

Maybe not the majority of people, but I think that quite a few do.

I really wish they made a violent Mario game. smile.gif

Some people blame the VT shooting because of games, and they still do. Those beastards.

I play bloody and violent games, only because I know I can't (and shouldn't) do it in real life (but not too often).

The only person I have killed is the guys in the games.

But think about this...

And I'm not trying to be funny.

What if a guy was hooked on GTA then he became a soldier? Wouldn't he kinda go crazy or something?? Or what if he vowed not to kill anyone then kept playing his game? Erghhhh.... its hurting my brain...

I play games because they're fun, violent or not.

Now, look here, I'm going to present to you two concepts.

One is a video game.

One is real life.

Believe it or not, real life has no influence on a game, and vice-versa. A pacifist can happily play "Wound ****ers 28: The Normandy Landing" without coming into conflict with his beliefs, as he is not hurting any living beings.

It sure is a "meh" opinion, because younger gamers aren't supposed to be playing these games wink.gif

But yeah I don't really think they influence much. Actual wars and stuff probably do more mental damage.

No. No. A thousand times "No".

Mario, along with a bunch of nintendo titles, are here as a series of fun games EVERYONE can play. It's a breath of fresh air from all these GTA rip-offs and realistic shooters. When parents go out to buy their little 6-year-old son a video game, they turn towards a name they know they can trust. A name that hasn't let down families for 20 years: Super Mario.

Young people play violent games, because they think these games make them mature/cool.

Then they insult people, who play/like games targeted to everyone.

I only play them if they're fun. The gameplay must be fun.

Playing Half-Life 2 - I'm using a physics gun to throw people around, this is awesome fun! *thumbs up*

Playing GTA San Adreas - ... well that got boring in five minutes.

I don't think that young people who play these games do it because they want to be cool, it's simply because that's how most games are today, bloody, brutal and violent (have nothing against games like these, really enjoyed Manhunt).

Another reason is that before the Wii came out, most kids bought Playstations and Xboxes. Sony and Microsoft really don't give a scheiser in making their games good quality and fun for all people from different age groups, cultures and background.
Instead, since their consoles were "in", it didn't matter if they only produced unoriginal poor quality racer and shooter games. Their way of thinking:
Blood = $$$

Thanks for saving me the time of making a similar reply, and stating it better than I could have.

This sounds very true to me, though fortunately I haven't really run into people like that in real life (the reason it sounds true to me is the sheer amount of people like that who have been described by Mario fans on the Internet).

I kind of don't think that "most" games are like that nowadays. There are tons of E-rated games at stores, and that includes retailers that are fine with carrying M-rated games. True, a lot of the E-rated games are crappy ones based on TV shows, but there are still loads of good ones as well (many of which I own), like Mario, Kirby, Sonic, etc.

I do think striving toward "coolness" plays a large part in getting younger kids to play those games, especially given the smart-alecky attitude many of them have toward players of more innocent games.

I play games if i think that they are fun, and that means a lot of games, not just violent ones. Hell, if I had a NES id play that quite a bit, because it was FUN.
Although, if someone has a mental illness, it can affect them (manhunt comes to mind, even though it was proven that it had nothing to do with the murder.)

The only shooter that is fun now is Red Steel. No blood, but swords.WTF? But little kids will have toy swords, so even though it is a 16 parents can play the shooting parts and kids can play the swords parts. Easy.
