I think I've seen Raccoon Sam and Fanguy also submit music, and Doctor Wario too unless I'm crazy. Plus, you've had some songs!

I have a lot of good guesses as why it isn't as popular to do, but I don't want to keep jabbering (but I probably will).

-As far as commenting, on visual art people see it all immediately, and can see what's wrong and how to improve it or just say how nice it looks. With music, you have to listen to it for much more than an instant, and people usually aren't as sure how to critique it.

-For making music, there's much less acceptance for amateur work. If a visual artist draws something not very good, people usually can offer advice on how to improve on it (even if it doesn't get as many views). Amateur music, unless somewhat recognizable, would probably seem like a cluttered mess of notes to listeners and leaves them with nothing to say.

Just my guesses anywho. I know I've tried to do music a bit (never took any actual instrument classes in school) and have never made a piece I was truly proud to write my name on.

I only have MTV Music Generator. And anyone who has used it knows how limited it is.

I just started a new song with SMW Instruments. However, it's 3 Megabytes so I can't host it in my own webspace since it allows only 2MB at a time.

Yeah, I think it's really just the fact that drawing art is an instant visual, so you can comment right away.


Usually when music is posted, it's most likely listened to, and after about a minute or 30 seconds, people get bored staying on the same topic, and go elsewhere. By the time the song is finished, they completely forget that they got it from the topic, and that it was looking for critique.

My estimation and theory, anyways.

i'd actually try making music if i could figure out how the hell to get instruments/samples/wtf loaded into modplug

samples tab --> Open a WAV

instruments tab --> Open a WAV or XI

samples are WAV's. Instruments are just fancy effects that you put on the WAV (volume and pitch control primarily)

go down the list of notes in the instrument and make sure the numbers are the same as the sample you're using for the instrument (otherwise your flute will suddenly become tuba)

ie if sample 2 and 3 are the same flute, and your instrument is a flute, make sure it has only 2 and 3 in the long list o notes

I do music and stuff, even if it's not very good. I'll post it here, too. It's just not often that I finish a song or deem it nice enough to make a topic about.
