Oh Michael Bay, what would we ever do without you? Probably have a better time watching this movie that's for sure. I have never been a fan of transformers. Their "real" time ended somewhere in the middle of my early childhood so I never really had the chance. Regardless, this movie looked amazing. Something about big robots batting the crap out of each other appeals to each and every guy for some reason. And in that case, this movie took the cake.
What I mean by that is, the movie is beautiful. While it's editing completely sucked, (Look at the chase scene instantly changing from afternoon to night) it's CGI was one of, if not the best I've ever seen in a movie. But that's the only thing. When you look at it, Transformers is only about the visuals. The story is confusing and the characters are really shallow. The bots were hard to tell each other apart and frankly, I still don't know who died and who lived.
While this isn't a complete change for Bay's less then stellar career, it
is a step in the right direction. I just wish this film would've known what course to take. It tried to appeal to too many people with such a limited basis. You've got the cartoon take, the serious action, but the most annoying was the sexual jokes placed oddly in the film. Completely unnecessary. I also wish Prime himself would've had a bigger part, as it barely seemed he should deem himself the leader. Though I liked all the nods to the past series.
So there you have it. This film is all about the visuals. But when it gets down to it, that's it.
