After seeing a topic with some old images of Abe's Oddysee, an old game for the PSX, I had this idea.
Ever wonder what happens to Mario when he dies, and falls through the screen?
The truth is, he falls all the way to hell, and starts a new life there. In this game, The 'Real' Mario must explore hell's depths and get all the dead Marios back to earth to defeat Bowser for some reason.
However, the transfering from hell to earth isn't too easy, especially since there's quite a lot of Marios to save. In this game, Mario has the ability to speak between the Marios. Simple commands like "Hello", "All of ya!", "Follow-a me", "Jump!" or "Kick!" are needed in order to proceed through the game. Here's a mockup screen:

In the picture, the 'real' Mario (the one jumping. He has a slightly lighter palette than the rest) is about to save the Mario on the right, trapped in a small space between the a pipe and a brick box.
Below is the way he'll most likely save him:
- Tell him to Jump (the brick breaks)
- Tell him to follow him (he starts walking in place)
- Tell him to jump again (now he'll get out from the trap)
- Lead him to somewhere near
- Telling him to wait
After that, the player will probably go and save the other two Marios. This'll be done by telling the first Mario from the left to Kick the shell, so it breaks the second Mario's brick he stands on. The shell will continue moving, and touch the little triange, so it both, breaks the original "Kicker Mario's" brick he stands on, and continues moving to left to avoid further dangers.
Both of the Mario's have fallen to the ground now, and after that, Mario will simply say "Get in there!", so all the Marios will start running towards the bended pipe. Now the players has saved three Marios! The progress can be seen on the lower right corner of the screen, green numbers representing saved Marios, and the red ones representing the dead ones. At the moment, the player has killed 29 Marios in other puzzles. The player can save his progress by going in to the bended pipe himself, so he gets back to mushroom kingdom
Here's the GameSpeak table I made up:
| |
Shift |
Control |
| A |
Hello! |
All of ya! |
| S |
Follow me |
Stop it |
| Z |
Wait |
Jump! |
| X |
Do it |
Kick! |
-'Hello' means getting focus on a certain Mario, after that he'll listen to your commands, unless he's pissed.
-'All of ya' means getting focus on each Mario on screen, so you can give commands to many Marios simultaneously.
-'Follow me' means that the Mario that the player has focus on will start walking until he is near the player. When the player starts walking again, the Mario will keep following him. If the player has focus on multiple Mario's, the all will stop.
-'Stop it' makes all the Marios stop the action they're doing (except walking) unless they're pissed.
-'Wait' means that if a Mario is following you, he will stop.
-'Jump' means that the Mario(s) that the player has focus on will jump unless they're pissed.
-'Do it' means that they will do an action. For example, if a Mario is next to a lever, he will pull it. If a Mario's on top of a veggie, he will pull it, and if said, he will also throw it. All of this works unless a Mario is pissed.
-'Kick' means that the Mario that the player has focus on will kick. Kicking applies for other Marios, Koopa shells and other items. Doesn't work if a Mario's pissed. Also, for one Mario only.
-Holding both, Control and Shift will make the player say "Get in there!", which will result all Marios to run towards the bended pipe.
Pissed Mario means that he is pissed for a reason or another, and won't respond to your commands. To "un-piss" a Mario, simply jump on him. Jumping on a pissed Mario twice will kill him.
Mario has also killed a lot of Koopas and Goombas in his life in the Mushroom Kingdom too, so there's a lot of enemies in hell, too!
The game has no scrolling whatsoever. Once the player leaves the screen, a transition will move him into another. Mario is also invincible in this game. The game has one-hit-kill, and after dying you will start from your last save.
Nonetheless, this is just a concept idea, and I am not making this game. Just thought about this as an awesome idea, so this thread is for discussing the idea, not the 'game' since it's not being made.
