I didn't post this in PPP because I want serious discussion. What do you think of the RPG Makers? Love 'em? Hate 'em?

...ehh, I suck at starting conversations.

2000 isn't all that bad

2003 is just 2000 with more **** added -- by this I mean it still has 2000's glitches

XP is a complicated pile of crap -- did they finish translating Ruby

95: Okay, but lacks alot of things.

2000: Huge massive update and plenty of things to experiment with, however, it is still limited.

2003: New default stuff, like a battle system, but everything else is pretty much the same thing. Like Draco said: still has the same glitches on par of that as 2000.

XP: Massive upgrade, especially with Ruby scripting. I don't know if it really has limitations because I never actually tried Ruby Scripting.

I've only played RPG Maker 2 and 3 for the PS2.

Not really fond of either of them, since I can't get a decent game going. :[

I have the programs RPG Maker 2000 and 2003 in English, I have the program RPG Maker XP in Spanish and I have not the RPG Maker 95. I usually use the RPG Maker 2003, because it is better than RPG Maker 2000 and it is easier than RPG Maker XP.

However, unlike many other programs. It's not a pain in the neck to create rpgs and really simple for beginners to understand.

2000 and 2003 are ok.
XP sucks, though.
But there was a 95?

I had 2000 and made my first couple of games with it, but i wanted to make platformers since rpgs arent really my kind of game, so i got the game factory, and now i use gm6.

Personally, I liked all of them, but my more recent and inventive game ideas aren't supported by RPGMaker's limitations.

Yes. Unlike the others, it could use the mouse and stuff. Also had an implented auto over-world character following system of the sort. However, it was very limited compared the rest if I recall.

I can see you didn't do much with it.

I find them alright.

BTW didn't someone tried to make a Mario platformer using RM2K and posted it on this site?

I think making platformers and such with RPG Maker is extremely stupid.

I mean, c'mon, it's like trying to make a Rolls Royce out of cottage cheese.

It's still possible though. Especially if someone mainly used that program through the course of their game making life.

Yeah, but if they intended it to be used for platform games, they'd call it Platform and RPG maker.

It's made with RPGs in mind.

Depends on what they started. If they started with RPG maker 2003 for example and had several years of experince with it. Then whenever ages later, they feel comfortable with Rm2003 and want to make a platformer, they're not going out of their way to make a platformer with a completly new program. Not too mention, it's not that hard to make a platformer with the RPG maker 2000 - Rpg maker Xp.
