I decided to enter the competition with a platformer starring Goomba. Goomba Strikes Back is a 10-level game where Goomba has gone on a Mario-style adventure.
Press F1 in-game for story, credits and controls! The full game includes 10 levels. I will probably continue it later! smile.gif Sorry for such a late entry.

Yeah, I need comments on the physics. I'll increase the friction.

In case anyone's wondering, this is written completely in GML. After the comp, I may post a version of the movement engine with placeholder sprites (to avoid it being overused), since movement in many games seems to be awful, especially Trisoft's.

Really well-done movement.

I don't find it slippery myself. It might give me a sort of impression of being kinda "heavy", but it doesn't bother me at all, and I don't consider it a fault.

It's amazing that you made this in such a short time. I'm working on a Mario engine (for a major game project) that the basic movement is mostly or completely done in, but I'm sure it took loads more time to get the same elements of the engine that this has so far working well in it (but then again, I only started using GM - and making games at all - in the latter half of last year, I think it was).

It's inspired by Go Luigi! Shroom Time's engine, but simpler (with some parts like slopes and powerups missing) and completely rewritten. Go Luigi was also my first GM game. (I never used the drag and drop mode, since I don't understand it- it's what turned me off GM in the first place.)
It's rather ironic, but some of how this movement works is actually inspired by a tutorial for a static engine in MMF2 I saw a while back.

Update 1 is here! smile.gif
Added: 60fps (bringing with it redone physics) and jump-through platforms. Also, NSMB graphics and the start of a HUD.

First Demo is here! Please give me C+C and comment if you played it.
The full version will be coming soon. There are no enemies yet, I hope to add some, but I can't think of what to use. So if you can, please suggest some! (They should be able to have NSMB sprites.)

nope....you need to save the gamr as a exutable you cant just rename the file with a .exe at the end.....its still a document )=

But I have made into an executable.. I've uploaded games before. Even the old version of this game worked. Could it be because I named it GoombaGame#.exe? (I tend to put # at the end of my GM6 filenames to make a new copy whenever I make a major change).
Gonna reupload it with a different name.
