| QUOTE | N-Europe, citing one of its trusted sources, reports that a Wii version of Mario Kart will be shown at E3 this week, with the game to be released across Europe later this year.
No specifics are offered, but the Nintendo-focused website does state that Mario Kart Wii will act as a replacement for one of the Wii's most anticipated titles: Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
The anonymous source claims that Super Smash Bros. Brawl won't be released in Europe until early 2008, with Mario Kart said to be filling the gap. In contrast, Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be released in the US later this year, but US gamers will have to wait until 2008 for the release of Mario Kart.
If true it would be a strange decision on Nintendo's part, giving fans in Europe and the US something to moan about. |
| QUOTE | Sources say that the Wii version of Mario Kart - which is said to be revealed at E3 - will be out this year in Europe...
One of our trusted sources has given us some news about the Wii version of Mario Kart.
The game will be shown at this year's E3, which is something that everything expects anyway. What's more is that it will be release this year in Europe. Specific details on the game are still unknown - just the planned release date and the fact that it exists is known - but we will find all that out next week anyway.
Mario Kart for the Wii will be a "replacement" for Super Smash Bros. Brawl in Europe, which will sadly miss Europe this year, and it will be out early 2008 instead. However, this also means that the US will not see Mario Kart until early 2008, and they will be getting Smash Bros. Brawl in 2007. This means that Nintendo fans in both Europe and the US will have something to moan about (they'll have something to be glad about, too....but there will probably be more moaning).
Also note that at the beginning of June Patrick Nagel, Deputy Marketing Manager for Nintendo Germany, stated that Europe will see Metroid Prime 3 and Mario Kart in 2007. We have reason to believe that he really was speaking the truth then.
As we have already said, we trust this source, but have put this up as rumour rather than news because we have no official way to back it up. You'll just have to wait and see. |
Old article, which states that Mario Kart Wii was previously shown behind closed doors a while ago. http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=164871| QUOTE | We all know Mario Kart will make an appearance to Wii, and even though the racing series has gone unmentioned so far, internet ramblings claim that Nintendo has finally let the cat out of the bag at its recent Nintendo Summit event in Seattle.
A claimed attendee of the event has posted supposedly embargoed information on NEOGAF suggesting Nintendo showed Mario Kart on Wii as part of a show reel which contained snippets of numerous titles.
The video served as an overview of titles due to release in 2008, claims the poster.
They describe the brief footage as graphically impressive, saying it was "traditional-looking", and adding that it appeared to control like other Wii racing games, i.e. with the Wii Remote held horizontally and tilted like a steering wheel.
They also noted that the WiiConnect24 logo was shown, suggesting online functionality. After the awesome online racing in Mario Kart DS, we'd say that's a no-brainer.
It's exciting news for sure, but hold on to your party poppers for a little while. We'll be speaking to Nintendo tomorrow when everyone's back to work, but don't expect more than a "no comment". But if this information is true you can expect it to emerge in magazines that were invited to the US event within weeks. |
