I recommend an R4DS or CycloDS Evolution. You'll need to buy a microSD/TransFlash card separately (the stores where you can find those products usually sell µSD/TF cards too). That way, you can download copies of the games you want to cheat with, put them on the card, and play them with the built-in AR-compatible cheats in these devices. You can even make backup copies of your save data (usually "gamename.sav" in the same folder as "gamename.nds", the ROM file) so just in case something gets corrupted, you can restore an older backup from before you cheated.
I'm pretty sure homebrew programs exist to copy save data from legitimate game cards onto your µSD card too.

Plus you'll open up a whole new world of homebrew programs and make your DS much more versatile =)

It's not too terribly expensive any more =( The R4DS sells for a little under $40 at http://www.electrobee.com/r4ds-revolution-p-10.html bundled with a bunch of goodies, and a 1GB microSD card sells there for $20.
My ARDS cost $30 when I got it =( idk if the price has since been lowered but whatever, just throwing the idea out there =P
