I like Kyori's idea. Just change the current template to "old forum profile," and then make a template for the new one that every one can add when the new forum is implemented.

You could always set the template up to have a link to the old forum member pages as well as the new forum member pages.

Yeah that works.

Interestingly, your page is protected. You should directly PM Joey in case he doesn't check this topic soon, as nobody else is able to edit it.

Not only that, but Joey isn't familiar with editing stylesheets, so we aren't able to modify the stylesheets to save us time and headaches when making templates.

This is mostly an issue with tables:
CODE
|-
| style='background-color: #ccf; border: 1px solid #002; font-size: 90%; padding: 4px;' | Field Name
| style='font-size: 90%; background-color: #fff;' | Field Data
|-
| style='background-color: #ccf; border: 1px solid #002; font-size: 90%; padding: 4px;' | Field Name
| style='font-size: 90%; background-color: #fff;' | Field Data

This makes looking at and editing templates very confusing in comparison to the alternative:

CODE
|-
| class='field' | Field Name
| class='data' | Field Data
|-
| class='field' | Field Name
| class='data' | Field Data

Oh, and embedding external images doesn't work anymore without some HTML buggery.

Not sure if it's an extension or something that wasn't reinstalled when the wiki was updated or not, but all it does is convert the image address to a link.

Anyone who is familiar with style sheets, or wiki coding in general, would be very very useful to have on the team.

I'd not have a problem with helping out, and I'm pretty used to wiki coding. Even if it was just so everything wasn't down to you :/

EDIT: Also, do we need the pages on things like PHP, ASP, C#, MySQL, etc.?

There are literally thousands of tutorials on things like that all over the internet, and there are pages for each of them on Wikipedia that are able to go into far more detail than a Mario Fangaming Wiki should ever be expected to.

They just seem sort of irrelevant.

C#, maybe, since people will be coding fangames in it.

The rest should have very general pages that add links to other more specialized sites for those who are interested.

Also, Kyori: you can't add external image links on Mediawiki. Upload the file to MFGGWiki and use [[Image:Filename.ext|#px]] to link to it.

Before the upgrade you could. That's why now instead of showing an avatar image, the MFGGer template just shows a link to the file.

And it should, because a wiki should never embed an external image...

Anyways, I just saved and re-uploaded the file for you so it's all good

It's not really my avatar that I'm concerned about, it's the fact that every single user article with an avatar will need that avatar uploaded.

There aren't really many legitimate reasons not to enable external image embedding; any foul play in regards to an external image link could be fixed easily and then the page protected.

Avatars aren't usually appropriate for wiki articles because they tend to change frequently, and your character reference is supposed to go there anyway.

I'm not referring to it in the sense of a forum avatar, but a wiki user avatar.

It's semantics really, the point still stands in regards to external image linking.

Why don't you just upload the avatar onto the wiki instead?

Yeah, I'll just go ahead and upload every single users avatar to the wiki :/

OR

As it should be. In fact, it shouldn't be your avatar on the page in the first place; it should be your character reference.

If you don't have a character, you shouldn't get a picture!

First off, the administration's too lazy to install #if statements, which is just as easy as changing wgExternalImages or whatnot to true. (You drop the files in a folder and include one file in LocalSettings.php.)

Secondly, you should never be embedding external images into a wiki, ever. You shouldn't ever be hotlinking.

Finally, you are not the only person editing the wiki, and you are not expected to fill it with content all by yourself.
