This is an engine I've been working on and tweaking for a few hours. smile.gif It's based off similar principles as the Go Luigi! Shroom Time and Goomba Strikes Back engines, but more efficient. I'm planning to release this open-source soon. biggrin.gif
It's also completely GML-written, for better efficiency, less lag and easier maintenance.

Features: [those in italics are new in this update!]
Basic Mario physics (walking, running, jumping)
Variable jumping
Solid and solid-on-top platforms
Slippery surfaces (improved)
HUD featuring coins, score and lives
Multiple entrances (only two supported yet)
Pipe entrances
Springs (still needs improvement, especially the animation)


Current version:
Release 3, 16/8/07 download (1.39MB)

Old versions:
Release 1, 15/8/07 download (1.31MB)
Release 2, 15/8/07 download (1.33MB)

This isn't bad, and there doesn't seem to be any glitches as far as I can tell. The only complaint, if you can even call it that, is that Mario doesn't run fast enough when you hold control. Regardless, good job.

Lacks variable jumping.

Also slippery surfaces are all wrong. When you release the button on a slippery surface, Mario shouldn't continue walking, but rather stop and keep slipping anyways. Also acceleration should be slower when on one. Plus snow isn't really a slippery surface.


But otherwise it's a very smooth start. Keep going!

I've fixed every problem mentioned! smile.gif

Additions in Release 2:
Slow acceleration on ice
Mario no longer walks while decelerating
Improved physics, such as running and jumping
Variable jumping
Jump sound (no music yet)
HUD
320x240 screen size

Updated. Added solid-on-top platforms, multiple entrances, pipe entrances (incomplete) and springs (the animation still needs to be improved, so don't complain about it).

you need to increase the skid deceleration, increase the running speed, and get rid of the deceleration while in the air. other than those very minor complaints, the engine is solid, and i haven't found any bugs.
