First off: Admins and mods, if you think it would be better if a public topic about this didn't exist, go ahead and lock it. I don't expect you'll mind, though.

I've personally been thinking lately that it's an idea worth considering for there to be a forum-specific moderator in charge of Help!. The forum is quite large (the 4th largest on the boards), is really quite active (the GC isn't all that much bigger), and is by no means free of people breaking the rules in it. When people do that, it's currently necessary for a global mod or admin to intervene, while the other forums have forum mods to help out with the workload. Of course, I don't really know how easy it is for the admins and global mods to moderate Help!, since I'm not one of them, but if a suitable mod could be found for it, it would surely make things easier for them. There is the fact that when the new mods were hired, there wasn't one assigned to Help! then, but for all I know it may seem like a better idea now than it did then, now that the new moderating system has been running for a while.

Just a thought, of course, which I'm curious about people's opinions on (mainly those of the administration). And lastly, no, this isn't some sort of "campaign" for myself; that would be quite foolish for obvious reasons.

I think it'd be an okay idea. Someone who makes sure people read the ****ing stickies.

Also in before you-know-who elects themselves.

Good idea actually. pick me

The Help forum could use a forum specific mod, especially since there seems to be a lot of... stupid members.

Yeah. Someone should weed that place out. It's a mess, IMO.

EDIT: Should we elect people for the job?

An election for mods doesn't make sense really.

For one thing, it's the administration's privilege to choose, and for another thing, an election would be a pretty much sure way that some popular person would be chosen, even if that person, while popular, is quite unqualified for the job in some ways.

actually if i modded any forum, it'd probably be the help forum since i post in that quite a lot... plus it's probably the only one low-volume enough for me to keep up with

maybe i should get back to klobber about it

Yeah. But the help forum is basically the easiest forum to mod in, cause every topic should ask for help.

Moderation rights determined by an election(mostly 13 year olds) is the worst idea ever. The adminstration makes the decisions anyway.

I actually stated that we needed one in a few topics there. You can go and dig up a whole list of topics that shouldn't exist quickly.

forum doesn't get that much activity and really stupid threads tend to sink like a rock to the bottom pages if they aren't dealt with quickly anyway

People keep asking for warez, stupid problems and common-sense questions that bog down the board, specially when everyone posts in the topic and tells them off.

Gogogo!

It isn't only a matter of ignoring the stupid threads, though. Annoyances are still present when people name their threads badly and inspecifically, and waste the time of other people who enter the topics by asking overly basic things mentioned in the stickies. Basically what Joey pointed out earlier in the thread.

Plus some particularly stupid topics may, and probably have many times, get filled with negative replies which don't really do anyone any good (since stupidity usually tends to attract replies naturally); heavier moderation may cut down on this as well.
