This. Plus:

Other characters from the Nintendo universe are ok if they are cameos.

What I hate is:
-Overused Sprites
-Mario World Sprites
-Very bad customs like effects
-Totally unfitting and clashing sprites
-Things that make no sense
-Midis...
-Unfitting Music (Mp3 plus Midis for examples)
-Sloppy engines
-Too loud sounds
-That sound (sorry I have to explain with an example) that you hear when you throw a veggie in Toad Strikes Back. It's damn overused...
-Jokes are ok If they are not stupid
-Well-hidden secrets, not 3 hidden exits per level like in SMW
-Way too hard or easy minigames
-Bad designed title screens

I can't think of more.
