Fan Game Design Sins, What really annoys you?

That's all fine and dandy, but what do I set the default controls to? I highly doubt the first thing you ever do in a game is go in and set the controls.

small platform jumping, too

ESPECIALLY with the game-restarts-if-you-die logic

Being able to stick to blocks or walls by holding the jump button.

people who try cute tricks in levels, which render it nearly unplayable

timer-based platform engines

Set them to something compy on the keyboard.

And actually one of the first things i do is configure the controls.

Forced Full-screen always bugs me. Especially when you can't un-full screen it or it changes your resolution too.

The same effing Mario MIDIs that have been in Fangames since 2001 and populate the entire game with no attempt at being original. Same applies for sprites. SMB3 IS OVERUSED PEOPLE. I very rarely use basic Mario MIDIs anymore... most of the stuff comes from completely different games.

Games built off that GameMaker platform example. I actually think that's worse than the built in Clickteam one, because they all play exactly the same since people don't even edit speeds/acceleration etc.

Overusing Charles Martinet's voice. Mario doesn't need to say something every time he does anything.

Install files. Okay if the game is gigantic and stuff needs to be uncompressed or whatever, but if it's one or two files, not neccessary. Especially those Clickteam ones that remove the Click .dlls when uninstalled.

kinda like what you said with the platforms, and including things like "showoff" effects that screw up, or are just plain annoying *coughgmparticleeffectscough*

games that basically block every attempt to close them (including alt+f4) unless you C-A-D them

unnecessary loading screens (if you aren't loading external levels/data then you probably don't need a loading screen)

cameras that wait until you're 10 pixels from the side of the screen before the screen scrolls

I think he means in a constant scrolling game, in large areas Zelda doesn't wait long to scroll, and the screen transition is the edge.

Bad/Not maching sprites. I won't play a game unless it has good sprites.

Also I hate it when buggy games that get you stuck easily have no restart button.

I thought you meant that Mario dying like that in general was wrong.
