The Doki Doki Panic enemies added quite well to the Mario universe, and basically changed it forever with it's Bob-Ombs and Shy-Guys.

QUOTE (Andross46 @ Aug 24 2007, 08:42 PM)
Japanese:

Pros :
...
An addon to the classic
Cons :
A total rip off to the classic
...

Huh?

QUOTE
American :
A variaty of new enemys
Very first ragdoll machanics
Four players to select
Cons :
(1)A rip off to arabs in dream world (i didnt make that up, some one else did)
(2)Not all the old mario fans liked it
(3)The boss is an allergetic overgrown frog

None of those cons seem valid to me.

1. Why should the fact that it's based off / edited from another game make any difference to the quality of the game itself? It even improved some parts of the gameplay of the original.
2. The fact that some people didn't like it doesn't affect the goodness of the game. Generally speaking it's the other way around - the goodness or badness of a game tends to affect how much people like it. SMB2USA seems to be an exception, though, because it's a fine game, though many people dislike it regardless (never giving any reasons that seem to me to make any sense).
3. ...How the heck is that a con? It seems more interesting and imaginative than anything else.

As for the main question, I'm honestly not sure which game I like better. They both rule.

The "American" one is better for several reasons. Obviously the Japanese one is essentially the same as the original but with worse graphics (Those clouds... ugh), a few tweaks to gameplay and harder levels. SMBUSA is vastly different to the original, much like Zelda 2 on the NES, but without it you wouldn't be getting a lot of the features in the sequels to follow. Hell, SMB3 may not even have had picking up shells without it. Even the simplest of things like doors may never have been present in sequels.

SMB and SMB2J could have easily been stuffed together in one package if given the time. The latter is nothing special and didn't really inspire a whole lot except poision mushrooms and eyes on everything.

...the Hell? SMB2J kicked so much ass! For one thing, I LOVE challanging games, and SMB2J IS challangeing. Two, more levels = more fun, and three, Those secret levels were kickass! But that's just my opinoin, though I'm not saying SMB2 sucked, it's just I think SMB2J was better.

Looking at some of these replies, I think maybe I'm agreeing with Miyamoto's comment about difficulty.

SMB2J was challenging, but I think SMB USA wins hands down in terms of the fun factor and variety it presents. It doesn't feel like an extension or an add-on to the first game and at the same time still feels like a decent sequel.

And really, pretending Doki Doki Panic never existed might help you reach a more honest opinion.

I'm all fine with SMB2J's difficulty... but's it's practically the same game as the first what with the same engine, music, sprites etc.

SMB was a success, so they were asked to make more for the new disk system, but from what I hear, the game didn't really take much advantage, it was really just what Black Squirrel said, SMB with tweaks, Luigi mode, more difficulty, and World 9 and such. Much smaller a leap from even SMB3 to SMW. I never made the connection between SMB2 and Zelda 2 though...

SMB2J was basically an expansion pack for SMB.

Japanese, because it is classic, very decent level disign with many tricks, and the most important reason I prefer that one, is because it is hard.

They're too different to compare for me.
After all, both games came out in both countries (SMAS at least).

Both are excellent games just that the one was close to SMB and the other was the opposite.

I say the American one, even though it's a Mario Doki Doki Panic it's a great game even though it's the blacksheep of the series. I'm disgusted with the Japenese version, those Japenese and their "Americans aren't good enough to play the game" bullcrap, ugh!

The problem with the Japenese version is the ludicrous difficulty, Japenese or not it's ridiculous. It's a good practice machine for Ghosts 'N' Goblins though.

I like the USA one because it added a lot of characters and took a break from the standard side scrolling Mario Bros. I would say it'd be a bad departure which it would, but they came back in SMB3 soooo

USA.

QUOTE (Nova @ Aug 24 2007, 08:00 PM)
The jap one wasn't original...

It was a rehash of the first game with harder levels.

But The amrican one was just a ripoff of doki doki Panic and it didnīt have 2player mode...
+ Later many elements from Super Mario Bros 2 was in New Super Mario Bros and I donīt think most of you donīt like NSMB...
