It must be excruciatingly painful if they keep if on you for too long, as is bound to happen. Basically it creates a large mass of heat with a direction, causing it to get really hot, and make it uncomfortable in that area.. making any unruly people move. It is not a "ray gun" as you would assume. --------------------
