In Superbad, Seth (The pudgy, loud-mouthed one) and Evan (The slimmer, shy one) are two friends who are both unpopular high schoolers, urging for sex before they go off to two different colleges. They get their chance for sex when Jules, a popular girl, overhears a conversation between Seth and Fogell (Evan's awkward, nerdy friend). Fogell tells the boys he's planning to get a fake ID in order to buy booze. This leads Jules to ask Seth if he can get alcohol for her party, which also starts a very strange order of events which makes up the group's adventure.
Superbad is a movie about high school and the raging hormones of all teenagers. Even when parts should seem like fantasy, the movie retains the feeling of realness. Maybe it's because of the acting, or maybe it's because of how well the scenes are directed, or maybe it's both.
I saw the movie on the silver screen yesterday and I have to say it was a blast. Every minute was hilarious and delivered perfectly. I'm lucky I live up here because my teenage neighbours to the south won't be able to legally experience it until it reaches DVD.
The movie is extremely foul (drawings of male genitalia litter the credits and they must have said the f-word at least 50 times during the movie). But beyond all those potty jokes, the movie has heart. It builds up very believable relationships between the characters and makes you enjoy every one of them. It gives you a really true feeling of what it's like to be a high schooler. It delivers the feelings of loneliness, unpopularity, but most of all, raging hormones.
The movie has a message that we have to appreciate what we already have and that we can't be afraid of new experiences. I'm not going to tell you
how it delivers this message to me, but I will say it does it very well and I'm glad I saw this movie.
