I'm thinking of getting a GBA Pokémon game to help fill my National Dex in Diamond, but I'm not sure which one. These are the benefits that I know about from each version:

Ruby: Hoenn Pokémon and Groudon, which can be migrated to Diamond. Also, wild Mawiles and Zangooses in Diamond.

Sapphire: Hoenn Pokémon and Kyogre, which can be migrated to Diamond. Also, wild Sableyes and Sevipers in Diamond.

Emerald: Johto and Hoenn Pokémon, lots of legendaries, some other new stuff and Johto starters. Also, wild Johto Pokémon in Diamond.

Fire Red: Kanto and Johto Pokémon, legendary birds, legendary gerbils, Mewtwo and Deoxys. Also, wild Caterpies, Ekanses, Growlithes and Elekids in Diamond.

Leaf Green: Kanto and Johto Pokémon, legendary birds, legendary gerbils, Mewtwo and Deoxys. Also, wild Weedles, Sandshrews, Vulpixes and Magbys in Diamond.

Which one should I get?

There is no Johto reigon in emerald.

I recomend Emerald, because spare Mewtwo and L/H and the legendary trios from their respective games you can get most anything.

Yeah.

There are also some in Fire red.

But more legends = more completion.

So as i said, Emerald.

You can get Mawiles in Emerald -- they're Rare and only on the basement floors of the Victory Road.

(In Ruby they're Common in Cave of Origin, Sky Pillar, and Victory Road -- they aren't in Sapphire)

You can get Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza in Emerald

You can get hell loads of older Pokémon in Emerald (like a Pikachu)
