I was just thinking earlier today about how I wished they would announce some new ones and lo and behold:

In an interview with Game Informer, famed Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi revealed Konami is already "well into development" on a third 2D sidescroller title for the DS. Igarashi also said he's interested in making an Xbox 360 sidescrolling Castlevania title with 3D visuals in the vein of the upcoming Castlevania: Rondo of Blood PSP remake--Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles.

I really hope they spend time on these. None of the CV games since Symphony of the Night have felt quite as epic (although Dawn of Sorrow came close) and Portrait of Ruin was pretty disappointing in my opinion. Maybe this will end up being the "Castlevania 1999" they've been hinting at for a while, the one that stars Julius Belmont. Oh man I hope so, the games are starting to get kinda stale so I hope they really make these awesome.

I enjoyed Portrait of Ruin, but I've never played Symphony or many of the other open Castlevanias, so I don't have anything to compare it to... Still, I'll probably give the new one a go if it gets favourable reviews.

Seems they've almost given up on trying to translate Castlevania into 3D... According to Igarashi (I think it was him) he considers the Devil May Cry games much more faithful to the original games compared to their own attempts. Maybe they should try emulating it, combining Devil May Cry's attributes with that of the 2D "Metroid-vania" games.

I enjoyed the two DS Castlevania games.

I have to wait for the 3rd one.

I liked it, in fact I'm listening to the soundtrack right now, but something about it was just off to me...I guess it's maybe the fact that all the areas felt really linear. I thought the idea of portraits was cool though, made for more variety in levels.

What I hope the next game has more of is more non-linearity in the castle, and some more platforming elements apart from just going from room to room and whipping ****. I wouldn't mind seeing more puzzles if they were done well, just to give the gameplay a little more variety. In Portrait of Ruin it almost felt like the ability to play as two characters was wasted potential, I know I played as Jonathan most of the time except for the very few situations where you had to use them both.

As for Symphony, I actually only played it recently, Circle of the Moon was the first Metroid-style Castlevania I played. So it's not just nostalgia talking in this case, there is something about Symphony that's really good, it just feels epic. You should check it out if you get the chance, it's pretty kickass

I thought Portrait of Ruin was utter ****. I hope the next one's better, or at least has an artist that doesn't draw like an average DA user.

Yeah I was gonna say...I know it doesn't impact the game too much apart from the character avatars or whatever but the anime style they decided to go with for the last few games looks pretty generic

A 3rd Castlevania DS Title? Hell ****ing yes.
It better be as good as Portrait of Ruin, that's for sure.

I'm not available for battling at this time, because Nintendo thought it was a good idea to completely remove Ditto hunting from Pokemon Platinum.

So the one for 360 will be a sidescroller? That's cool, but I they make another 3D game soon.
